Female Cat, Domestic Short Hair

Domestic Short Hair / Abyssinian (Short Coat)

Description:

Estimated Birthday 05-15-2024 Okay to live in a home with... KidsDogsCats May not do well with.... young children Physical Description She is medium-sized with a classic Abyssinian mix coat pattern. Pookie has pretty green eyes and reddish brown facial highlights. Her coat is very soft to the touch and she has a sleek, elegant body style. In excellent health. Personality Pookie is a friendly and outgoing kitty who got to my heart in an extraordinary setting from which I personally rescued and now foster her. She was found while I was backpacking miles from any home She came out of the woods that evening hungry and friendly. Although she wouldn't go with me that day, I couldn't stop thinking about her. Upon arriving back at the trailhead, we informed the resident ranger of “Pookie’s” (the name I had givenher that morning after having been with her for several hours) presence at the camp and he said hewould relay the info to his supervisor. I followed up with local rescue orgs, but they had their hands fulland lacked the resources to go after a kitty as remote as Pookie. After a few days, I called the regionalsupervisor for a status and, to his credit, he was busy trying to figure out the available resources andhow to navigate the internal policies. With the camp soon closing for the season and the weatherturning rapidly, it became clear that it fell upon me to go back in and retrieve Pookie. I reserved the lastremaining night available and knew that if I didn’t succeed, Pookie wouldn’t likely survive much longer. Ihave a live trap that I packed in and as I came into camp, I saw Pookie hunting in the grasslands above. I successfully trapped her and hiked out with her in the trap. She has adjusted to our toy poodle. We have often wondered how Pookie got that far out into the woods and can only speculate More importantly, I have marveled at how she managed to survive as long as she did in that challenging environment. After spending time with her, though, I have come to appreciate just howsmart, quick and agile she is and now have a pretty good idea of how she pulled it off. All that, and witha very agreeable personality and a beautiful creature as well. In a way, I think my friend and I weremeant to be on that particular backpacking trip for a higher purpose. Pookie and I have been on quitethe journey together and knowing just what a remarkable cat she is, my remaining part of this mission isto find her a home fitting of her incredible beginnings and refined personal qualities. As my friend said at the time, she picked you, not the other way around! My mission is to find a good home fitting of this sweet little gem. She is alert, playful, and will benefit from the interaction of other gentle pets. In those relaxed and leisurely moments, she will be your loyal snuggle buddy.
