This sweet girl is a cuddle bug — if she sees you look comfy, she will come over and snuggle up next to you (or under the covers). Her favorite pastime? Purring up a storm while gently pawing at you when she’s in the mood for some love or a tasty treat! She settled into her foster home within hours, she’s a fast friend. She might be a little shy around strange men at first, but she does warm up after a day or so after getting to know them. She is excellent with her litter box, has never had an accident. I have even moved her litter box around while cleaning and she always finds it. A little quirky as well, she gets the zoomies after using her litter box! She loves to show off her playful side with her favorite toys. Her favorite toy is of course the laser pointer! But will also be seen chasing and tossing her little toy mice in the air. She's also incredibly smart, always eyeing door handles like a little escape artist in training and opening closet doors so she can go play in boxes! Overall, Phoenix is a playful, affectionate kitty who will steal your heart (and maybe try to open a few doors). Definitely have a scratching post handy—she’s got some energy and loves her scratching sessions on her scratching post." Meet Phoenix, a gorgeous long haired young senior calico who was adopted from ARWOB as a young adult cat back on September 2018. Unfortunately, this beauty was let down by her previous adopter who rehomed her in 2020 without contacting ARWOB for help/guidance or requesting help to relinquish her back to us. Like many pet owners who believe they can find a better home and any home is better than returning to the rescue or shelter they adopted from, this is how our poor sweetheart landed in a nightmare. In August 2024 ARWOB was contacted by a local city shelter who notified us of a cat entering their facility with a chip tracing back to us. We quickly searched our database and contacted the adopters on our records and found out they had rehomed her to a friend who in turn rehomed her to someone else to be lost and no one followed up on her. Back in 2018 this kitties name was Sabina and sadly the story we have gathered is for the past 3 years she had been owned by a young working adult who rents a room along with other roommates. The roommates had noticed their roommate kept her cat isolated in her room, with no access to any other parts of the home. The cat was visibly declining in health looking filthy year after year, until finally they started to comment and recommended she find help to rehome or relinquish Sabina to a shelter who can take the cat. Sabina's then owner declined help and continued to ignore the poor cat. Finally, in August 2024 one of the roommates contacted a cat rescuer to seek help. Once the rescuer was involved she was able to get the owner to relinquish Sabina to her and immediately removed her from the home to take her to the city shelter in hopes they could help her. This is when ARWOB was contacted. We were able to communicate with her rescuer who mentioned the room was a filthy dark environment. This poor cat had been enduring and suffering in silence, unseen, unheard and dealing with a flea infestation so severe there were too many to count. When she was treated her first day of rescue, this flea infestation in turn created a horrible skin infection, dirty coat and generalized alopecia (hair loss through her body). It was no wonder we couldn't recognize the bright happy healthy and BEAUTIFUL Sabina we once knew and had under our care, to this poor depressed kitty who truthfully looked like a mangy opossum with hair patches here and there. Hence, we knew this girl needed to start the beginning of her new life with a NEW NAME and just like the Mythical Phoenix who bursts into flame and is reborn, this beauty has now been under our care for almost 2 months. She is recovering from the long term trauma she had to endure, but has now risen and is shining bright like a Phoenix! Phoenix's coat is healing and growing back and we can't believe the difference only 6 weeks of a normal happy clean environment with NO parasites (fleas) has done for her. Not only physically but also mentally, she is a star! This is what her foster mom has to say about this beauty: Phoenix has been an only pet for years and as such we prefer a home who is looking to be a single cat house hold. A cat adopter looking for that one kitty companion to offer this young senior the stability and commitment she deserves to live the rest of her golden years. As of 09/2024 she is fostered by a single working adult in an apartment setting in Fashion Valley 92110 and thriving in that life style as a single pet. This healthy and UTD on all medical (felv/fiv kitty) is READY to be adopted. To schedule a meet and greet in the fashion valley area please submit an adoption application online at ARWOB.org. Once your application is received we will schedule a call within 24 hours to start the adoption process, which can take 48-72 hrs (you can request foster to adopt trials if you have other pets in the home, however, we still request the adoption application is submitted instead of the foster application). Please, DO NOT apply to adopt if you don't have landlord written approval (or are working on it), have a problem with a home check and are not ready to adopt within a week of submitting your application should it be approved to adopt.
