Male Cat, Domestic Short Hair

Domestic Short Hair / Tabby / Mixed

Description:

Hi! I'm Onyx! I was rescued at Peninsula Humane Society. I lost my previous home and family soon after I was forced to live with another cat. I was not happy sharing my space with another cat and started showing signs of stress. Sadly, my previous family decided the solution was to surrender me. I’m a mellow, sweet (yet naughty at times) and handsome silver and white Tabby with a cute, quiet meow. I’m initially shy but I’ve been through some major changes lately which hasn’t really helped my confidence. Thankfully there’s a cozy kitty cave here so that’s where I initially headed to decompress. I spent most of the first few days in my cave while my foster pawrents came to me to offer comforting pets and treats. I wasn’t too interested in either but a few days later I walked out of my cave and even though I was still feeling shy, I asked for pets! Two of my most favorite things are head scratches and laps. I’ll jump up on your lap and rub up against you and give you head butts while purring away. Sometimes I prefer to just lay next to you, all while emitting affection by looking up at you with my sweet eyes. One of my favorite things to do is put my paws on your chest and purr. I’ll even greet you when you come home and roll over to show off my belly. And when visitors stop by, I won’t shy away, instead I’ll ask them for pets. I’m a very mellow cat and often spend the day snoozing in my bed. I’m not very interested in toys but will occasionally play when the laser toy or wand feather toy come out, I just need a little encouragement. Verbal reminders that it’s good for me to exercise and get my energy out also help. I might pounce or bat at a toy for a bit before deciding I want to go back to chilling with you. Hey, a little exercise is better than no exercise! If you ask me, food is more exciting than toys… hehe. I love mealtime and will do my cute little flops to get breakfast and dinner. I’m currently eating yummy wet food diet and it makes me so happy. I really need my new family to continue feeding me wet food. What’s that saying? Happy cat, happy life? Yes, I think that’s it. I do still have some shy/nervous behaviors I’m working on that I need my new family to understand. I become nervous when I feel cornered or when someone is intruding into my safe area. And I sometimes become excitable prior to receiving my meal. I can become feisty around mealtime when my food isn’t being served fast enough or often enough so I do need a family who will be patient with me while I learn that you won’t ever let me go hungry. I love human companionship but there are times when I prefer to be alone. When it's time for some alone time, I'll let you know. I need my cat savvy family to be able to understand my signals. I’m looking for a calm and quiet adult only home where I can relax and share lots of love. My previous family let me down but I know there’s a loving family out there for me. Maybe it’s you! You can see more of me in my foster home here @sf_fosterfriend.
