Male Cat, Domestic Short Hair

Domestic Short Hair (Short Coat)

Description:

FOSTER UPDATE: Crinkle Cut took about 2 weeks to really settle in but by day 10-14, I was able to pet him. He is an exceptionally sweet cat, very timid but not at all aggressive. He is using the litter box regularly, eating/drinking as well. He enjoys using his toys alone (still not super comfortable coming out of his cat tunnel or hiding spots except for food/litterbox). He uses his scratching board and enjoys various types of treats. Like most cats, the squeezable treats are his favorite. I haven’t noticed any food sensitivities, he appears to like pretty much anything. He is becoming slowly more exploratory, and in a few instances has travelled beyond his “safe room” to look into the kitchen/living room. However, any quick movements, unfamiliar sounds, or people will cause him to hide. He is a low maintenance cat but I think he would do best in a home with other cats to help foster some confidence and stimulation. A cute quirk he has is purring without physical contact, sometimes if I just lay down next to his hiding space he will purr just by being near someone. He enjoys pets but generally only from the comfort of his hiding spaces, and will nuzzle into your hand/ make biscuits. I have not witnessed any swipes, bites, etc but I have been pretty receptive of his body language for initiating contact. When he is uncomfortable, particularly prompted when using the litter box / eating and I approach - he will hiss and retreat to a safe space. I think with time he could gain quite a bit of confidence through a distinct routine, patience, and consistency. He is quiet, not much vocalization at all but I feel that is likely due to his timid nature and new environment. Some things to note which are also likely attributed to a new environment and perhaps his experience as a stray: with wet food, he has a tendency to try to “hide it” if he hasn’t finished it - ie digging around the bowl, overturning the bowl etc. He also spends a decent amount of time in the litter box trying to cover up his scent, and will at times go back to the litter box after use to further dig and hide his scent.
