Description:

This is Lyric, and I find myself singing, “You are my Sunshine”, when she’s playing with her ball. She gets so excited when we go outside because she knows it’s “BALL TIME”! Now, I only get to throw it once, but she’s off like a shot and does come back with it—but doesn’t want to drop it—yet. She circles me in a little dance making sure I see that she has it, then waits while I throw a ball for another dog and she runs after him—she doesn’t want his ball—she just wants to make sure he gets it and brings it back so she can run after him again. Lyric can be shy at first but she warms up and is very sweet and such a great dog. She loves touch and will indicate when a belly rub is needed. She listens well and has had 6 weeks of training to help build her confidence at The Complete Canine... She loves all the dogs, big or little—and initiates play with all of them. She will definitely need a dog friend. At obedience class she was sad that she couldn’t visit every dog there whenever she wanted to. A secure backyard is essential. She is also excited when someone spies a lizard and takes off after it. She doesn’t need to know what’s being chased, she just joins in wholeheartedly. Lyric is completely housebroken—never had an accident in the house, and she’s crate trained and sleeps peacefully through the night in her crate. According to her last weigh-in she’s 56 lbs. and she is 5 years old. She has very long legs and (warning) can reach things she shouldn’t from counters and tables. She would do best with an active, attentive, family, prepared to offer her reward-based, loving, patient instruction. She’ll need doggy friends, for sure! Older kids would be good—I think she’d like younger kids, too, but she’s big and sometimes doesn’t look where she’s going, so might be too much for smaller children. I’ve never heard her growl or seen her bare her teeth. We did her DNA and she’s got some great smart genes, promising an amazing potential with the proper guidance. There are the three main breeds, Border Collie, Labrador Retriever, and Australian Cattle Dog, (making up about 75%). She does have some arthritis in her back legs, but it doesn’t stop her from running like mad and jumping 3 feet into the air to catch a ball. She takes a pill twice a day—very reasonably priced that keeps her arthritis in check. She loves her people, food, other dogs, and especially tennis balls!
