Male Dog, West Highland White Terrier Westie
West Highland White Terrier Westie / Cairn Terrier / Mixed (Medium Coat)
Description:
Astor is adorable with a capital "A"! Astor is a scruffy little boy who is estimated to be around 7 years old. He is a little character who is not afraid to ask for what he wants. He loves his people and is pretty darn cute with his little walk and smile. Astor weighs about 9.5lbs. Six years ago Astor was adopted from the YCSPCA by a nice older lady who subsequently moved with Astor into a “pet-friendly” retirement community. Unfortunately, Astor did not adjust well to the move and management there determined that Astor was no longer welcome due to the defensiveness of his owner when the staff came into the apartment. So, sadly, Astor’s mom had to relinquish him so that we could find a home that was a better match for him. Astor is truly a little old man in a dog body and enjoys the simple things in life like neighborhood strolls and naps in front of the fireplace. He can be nervous in new situations but blossoms in a quiet home and people who can be patient with him and allow him to warm up at his pace. Once he trusts you, he loves his scratches and will rub up against you asking for attention like a cat. He is a low-energy guy, who would thrive with a senior couple or person looking for a mellow companion. Astor was previously on anti-anxiety medication but has since been able to come off of them once being moved to a quieter home. He seems to get overwhelmed by lots of other dogs but has done well living with another mellow dog who respects his space. He even enjoyed some light play with the other dog. We haven't seen him around cats, but we suspect he could do well with a dog-savvy cat that gives him his space after a slow introduction. Astor needs an adult-only home. Astor is housetrained, but his new family should expect accidents as he adjusts to a new environment and routine. He doesn't like crates but does well being in a pen when home alone and sleeping in overnight. He does well being left alone for short periods. Surprisingly, Astor is a very quiet guy - he’ll bark at strangers at the door or gate, but is otherwise very quiet, unlike some dogs his size. Are you the right family to give Astor a peaceful new home? Aster's adoption fee is $250. Apply to adopt here! https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm and started on preventatives and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
