Description:

PAW UPDATE!!!! Rocky the Senior had his amputation surgery on12/5/24 and is rocking life as a tripod. Rocky is now fully able to get up, walk and maneuver on his own without any assistance and gets stronger every day. Rocky is so happy to have found a foster family where he gets lots of love, a dog sibling and comfy beds. Rocky is a 95 pound estimated 9 year old chocolate lab who is house broken, has basic manners, some obedience training, loves his easy walks, enjoys the water (even for a bath), adores people and is fine with other dogs (but is past the age for young active dogs who want a rough and tumble play buddy). If Rocky seems like the right dog for your family, email [email protected] or fill out our online application at www.labradorsandfriends.org. Rocky is located in Southern California. In the Beginning….Recently Rocky the Senior was a stray at a local shelter with a known owner who decided he/she no longer wanted Rocky. It was obvious Rocky didn’t have the best life and was quickly listed for euthanasia by the shelter. When we heard Rocky was at risk we quickly reached out to rescue him. The x-rays the shelter provided suggested he had an old healed fracture which should not be bothered. Sadly the new x-rays we took showed and open unhealed fracture with significant bone loss eliminating any option but amputation. The good news is that other than being overweight, Rocky is healthy and able to undergo amputation surgery to alleviate the pain causing his lameness from his broken leg.
