Description:

12/06/24 05:43Doggy Day Out Report:Today I: met a new friend and was so excited that I couldn’t stop moving while she put on my collar and harness. I felt a bit unsure about getting into the car, so she gently lifted me into the back seat, and off we went to Almaden Lake Park. There was so much to take in—dogs and kids playing, people jogging, and bikes zipping past. When other dogs and people passed by, I was curious. I made sure to sniff every patch of grass and discover new scents all along the way. My favorite part was resting my head on her lap and soaking up all the cuddles.Three Words to Describe Me are: Affectionate, Cuddly, Timid(ish) Notes from My Walker: Bubblegum is incredibly affectionate and loves cuddles. Whenever I squat down to pet him, he leans into me for extra snuggles. He’s a bit hesitant about getting into the car—I had to talk to him and gently coax him before lifting him into the backseat. He seemed a little nervous during the ride as well.During our hike, we made several stops, and each time he would lean on me, seeking more pets. At first, he pulled on the leash quite a bit, but after about 20 minutes, he settled into a slower pace, though his wandering meant I had to watch my step to avoid tripping. Bubblegum is very curious about other dogs and people, often wanting to approach them to say hello.11/20/24 06:47Dog Day Out ReportToday I: went on a long walk around Communications Hill and got lots of cuddles from my adventure buddy! There were an abundance of smells for me to explore while walking around the neighborhood and parks, and I got to enjoy them all. The best part of the day though, was being in my friend’s lap, receiving love and scratches oh so willingly. I had a difficult first year of my life and still have so many things to familiarize myself with in this world; will you be my furever friend who shows me the joys this life has to give?!Three Words to Describe Me are: (Extremely) Affectionate, Captivated, Timid(ish)Notes from My Walker: Bubblegum is an amazingly sweet cuddle bug! He seeks his companions' attention immensely, and preferred it best when he could lean into me. I discovered at the end of our adventure that Bubblegum has had a challenging start in life, which explained a lot of the behaviors I experienced during our Dog Day Out. Much of this world is clearly new to him; a lot of exploring and investigating happened, and several times, he became startled by his surroundings. He is also quite scared of the car; it took a lot of coaxing, and I eventually had to lift him into the backseat. A handful of his scared moments, I couldn’t identify the trigger but Bubblegum would be hesitant to continue our walk. He doesn’t display many typical FAS behaviors but I could see his timidness. He didn’t have any prey drive with critters in the neighborhood but he is very alert to other dogs. He would have a rigid stance and a hard stare if he heard other dogs walking/barking around the neighborhood but that was the extent of it; he only pulled towards one dog and he was never vocal. We made several stops along our walk, which he mostly spent in my lap. Gentle with his approach, but demanded love and attention - making for the best snuggler! It doesn’t appear that he has received any training as he didn’t respond to basic commands and was often wavering with his leash manners (I was frequently tripping over him). Before going back to the shelter, I gave Bubblegum a large rope to play with at the park, which he preferred to just carry around, showing it off to others. I truly hope that someone gives Bubblegum a chance to experience the true joys of this world; he deserves to have someone love him as much as he is looking to love them!
