Description:
01/15/25 12:53 Elroy is a young neutered Dutch Shepherd. He has been in the shelter since early September. In November he began destructive behaviors in kennel that ended up inflicting harm on his nose. He was placed on anxiety medications and meds to help his nose heal. Since then he has repeatedly caused injury to himself while in kennel including moderate weight bearing lameness on his right front limb. He left briefly for foster but was returned due to separation anxiety. There unfortunately is no safe kennel space to put Elroy in where he will not cause harm to himself. Due to his kennel stress that is causing self harm the shelter unfortunately needs to place him on final. Under the WeCare Matrix Separation anxiety that is causing injury falls under the U/U category. He is a very nice dog, friendly with people and other dogs. Needs to be out of the shelter by 1/29. He could be adoption or rescue. 12/01/24 23:35Doggy Day Out Report:Today I: went for a 4 miles plus hike at Almaden Quicksilver Park. I really liked going out. I got to stretch my legs which I really needed to do. I really bonded with my handler. I gave him lots of doggy kisses. Who doesnât like doggy kisses. Iâm not reactive to other dogs, except these to mite sized yappy dogs who were calling me out just because Iâm big and they got all nervous. But my handler would not let me go over there and straighten them out. Well thatâs okay, I quickly got over it. I met lots of nice people and other dogs on the trail and I greeted all of them courteously.Three Words to Describe Me are: Affectionate, big, happyNotes from My Walker: Elroy is about 1 ½ years old, and is still a puppy in some respects, although you would not know it from looking at him. He is a big, healthy dog. He did quite well on our hike through the mountain trails at Quick Silver Park. And he never got tired. He and I bonded quickly. He loves to give kisses, and due to his size, he can (and will) jump up on you to lay those kisses on you. He needs to be trained not to jump up on people. He thrives on affection. He likes riding in the car. He likes meeting new people and other dogs.11/25/24 17:47 Elroy is a friendly young MI Dutch shepherd. Elroy needs out of the shelter. He is experiencing kennel stress that has deteriorated recently, he attempts to climb out in covered kennels and is causing trauma to his nose, toes and joints. He is on behavior medications and we are treating his wounds but he needs to get out of the shelter urgently.
