Description:

12/16/24 01:40Doggy Day Out Report:Today I: Met three new friends. They were very quiet and nice when we first met so I could get comfortable. When we left the shelter, I was very happy to sniff and do my business! Getting in the car was very scary for me. I wanted to, but I was really nervous. My new friends went slow though and even let me try a smaller car and I got in with some help! Once in the car, I got to eat snacks and I gave my friends LOTS of kisses! When we stopped at a park, I was happy to sniff and walk. I saw other dogs on leash and in a dog park. They were very interesting, but there were so many great smells that I focused on those more. We did go to a busy street, and I was very uncomfortable, so I pulled my ears back and dipped my head. Once they saw that I was scared, my new friends turned around and we went back to the quiet streets and park, which are much better for me! Sadly, we had to leave the park, but getting in the car was easier this time – my new friend got in first and showed me it wasn’t scary after all so I followed her and then settled in for more snacks and kisses. I hope I get to have a family who will do more days like today with me!Three Words to Describe Me are: Noise Sensitive – Cautious - GentleNotes from My Walker: Mouse is such a lovely boy! He is quiet and thoughtful, and going slowly at first helps him to understand what is expected. Getting him into the car was a challenge at first, he was quite nervous but exhibited no aggression at all. Because it was a training walk, we tried the smaller car and that worked better for him. Once in the car he did great! On the reurn trip, one of the walkers got into the back seat to encourage him in and that worked really well. He is just unsure and needs time and encouragement. On the trail, he was a solid 8 out of 10 in terms of ease of walking and managing. When we encountered dogs on leash, he was interested, but was easily distracted and redirected. No reactivity was evident at all. Noises can be scary for Mouse, particularly cars whizzing by. He gave very clear signals of being uncomfortable when we turned onto a busy street, so we quickly doubled back to quieter streets. The park and trail were definitely more his speed. Mouse is a gentle, sensitive boy who deserves a family who will go slowly and give him lots of positive reinforcement (he LOVES treats!) to help him overcome his fears.
