Description:
Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application. Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.General Notes | Nico can be easily described as a sweet, goofy, and incredibly smart boy looking for a laid-back adopter to snuggle with! Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Personality | With so much love to give, Nico is devoted to his people and pack once he feels safe in his new home. Nico heavily gravitates towards people and other dogs he can trust. Truly, he needs a supportive family that can go slow and be patient as he builds his confidence around new people. Once people have earned his trust, he is a silly but passionate companion that will follow you from room to room with the biggest smile a dog could have. He is a great cuddle-buddy and such an easy-going dog to have around. More importantly, Nico would love a quieter home where he can focus on creating a strong bond with his pack without the distraction of too many guests coming and going. Currently, Nico is working to overcome his fears with the help of a trainer, but he would do best learning with someone who is dedicated to helping him grow and taking the time to build a meaningful relationship with him. If you are looking to develop a deep connection with a special dog, then Nico can't wait to meet you!Story | Nico was adopted as a puppy from a local Houston shelter. He was taken back 3 years later and owner asked for him to be euthenized probably because he was heartworm positive.Other Dogs | Nico would thrive best in an only dog household to ensure trust and bonds with his human owners.Cats | Not a fanChildren | Nico would do best in a quieter home without kids. Training | Being very food driven and smart, he is a dog of many talents. Nico is perfectly potty and crate trained and knows sit, come, lay down, and go to bed. Also, he is quickly learning to feel more comfortable greeting and meeting new people! Nico spent 4 weeks at a board and train learning confidence and manners! Leash | We are so proud of him! He behaves nicely on a leash and loves to go on short walks.Activity Level | Nico typically matches the energy of those around him and loves to play when given the chance! However, he would be satisfied curled up in his bed sleeping the day away.Health Notes | Nico was heartworm positive, but recently finished treatment and is ready to go! Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Nico! Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle
