Description:

Meet Nerds: A Sweet, Playful Soul Looking for His Forever Home!Nerds is a 3-year-old neutered male mix breed with a heart full of love and a whole lot of energy! He's been thriving in his foster home, where he’s proven to be housebroken, walks beautifully on a leash, and is well-behaved inside the house—no chewing or excessive barking, just a calm demeanor (except when the doorbell rings!).Nerds is playful and enjoys interacting with other dogs, showing his friendly side during pack walks and playtime. He’s become more confident around new situations and people, and he absolutely loves grooming time—there’s nothing like a good brush for this sweet boy!On walks, Nerds is very responsive to commands like `sit,` `down,` and `come.` He’s full of energy and loves to run, but also takes correction well when he gets a bit too excited or rambunctious. Nerds has a gentle nature and loves meeting new people, and he’s calm and composed around other dogs, both big and small.During a recent visit to Fast Cat, Nerds showed his true colors—he was calm, well-behaved, and non-reactive even with the hustle and bustle of other dogs and noise around him. Although he was initially a bit nervous about the lure, he quickly adapted and was happy to hang out, enjoying some fresh air and posing for pictures.Nerds has faced some challenges in the past, including being returned to the shelter after a few months due to behavioral concerns his previous owner found difficult to manage. He can be anxious in certain situations and has sometimes reacted unpredictably, such as growling, snapping, or lunging when frightened by unfamiliar people or loud, sudden stimuli like car washes or van windows. These reactions stem from fear and sensory sensitivities. Additionally, while Nerds has made progress in his foster home, he has shown some resource guarding behavior in the past while in the shelter, particularly with food bowls in the kennel. He may snap or attempt to bite if his food or empty bowls are approached, and this behavior will need to be managed with patience in his new home. An experienced owner who can help him build trust and feel secure will be key to his success. What Nerds Needs:A patient and experienced family who understands that Nerds' anxious behaviors and resource guarding are rooted in fear and sensory sensitivities, and who can provide consistent positive reinforcement.A home with no young children, or at least with children who are older and can respect Nerds' space and boundaries.A low-stress environment with minimal sudden or overwhelming stimuli, such as loud noises or chaotic situations. An owner who is active and loves outdoor activities like running or walking—Nerds loves to stay active and would thrive in an energetic environment.Nerds is a great dog with so much potential. He just needs the right home where he can continue to blossom and show off his sweet, playful nature. If you think you can offer Nerds the love and care he deserves, come meet this special guy today!
