Male Dog, Rat Terrier
Rat Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (Short Coat)
Description:
Introducing wee little Forest, an adorable mini rattie mix at just over 7 lbs. (and he's hoping to add another pound). This tiny dude had a questionable past in his 3 years, recently arriving at a Georgia shelter as a stray, with a flea infestation and malnutrition. Luckily those were treated, and Forest has a new rattitude! One thing that needed no help was Forest's cuddling. He wastes no time snuggling up to whoever might be sitting down, though he is leery of new people until he gets used to them, which is usually a short adjustment period. As an extremely small boy, he often barks his feelings upon seeing strange dogs in the neighborhood or new humans. If given proper introductions, he coexists very well with other dogs. Forest enjoys walks and time outside, but he doesn't have high exercise needs. Indoors he enjoys playing with toys, but if a human isn't around to help, he can throw the small ones himself or choose a chew toy to enjoy quietly in his bed. Forest will sleep quietly in a crate at night, but he would love to sleep in bed with humans if he is allowed. He does well when left home alone for several hours and doesn't have to be crated, although his foster mom still has him wear a belly band to prevent marking indoors when she is out of the house. He is house trained on a schedule.Being very food-motivated is helping Forest's training, but he would benefit from continued work, especially with outdoor distractions. He has started to "sit" reliably, and his leash walking is also improving. Everything is so new and exciting for this little guy, but cheese does help him focus! What he lacks in discipline, Forest makes up for in cuteness, and can't wait to win you over.
