Female Dog, Rat Terrier
Rat Terrier (Short Coat)
Description:
Leaving the only home she had ever known at 8 years-old was upsetting for Izee, but it took her only a day or two to settle in to her new foster home and show what a wonderfully resilient gal she is. Friendly, well-mannered, and oh-so-playful, Izee has really won everyone's heart, both human and canine. Since she absolutely loves going for walks and checking out all the fascinating scents of the neighborhood, she gives thumbs up to her new exercise routine that we expect to take her from her current 31 lbs. down to a more healthy 25 lbs. or so. Of course diet is also part of the new regimen, and thankfully she isn't too agitated about her lower rations; she eats quickly but then doesn't pester for more nor try to invade her foster brother's bowl. It's hard to tell what Izee loves the most: getting butt scratches, playing catch or tug-of-war, wrestling with her foster brother, or a leisurely snooze on the couch. All of these activities add great contentment to her life, and she is hoping for a new home where she gets plenty of all. You'll appreciate her great house manners and reliable house-training, as well as her easy-going nature upon meeting newcomers (once she has barked at them at the door, of course). At night she'd love to snuggle in your bed with you, but if you prefer to sleep dog-free, she will spend the night in a crate or on a nearby dog bed. Izee's only significant issue is a skin allergy. Her discomfort is mostly controlled on a limited ingredient diet with occasional spritz of anti-itch spray, but if she has a flare-up, she gets relief from a course of Apoquel (~ $24/month). If you can recognize Izee's happy heart, please visit her online album at https://imageevent.com/beales/fosters/izee to see lots more pictures of her plus additional information.
