Description:
Dixie is extremely pretty!! Some photos got distorted during uploading. I'm sorry to say that if Dixie isn't adopted soon, I might have to put her down, and I don't want to do that. I can no longer keep her, and I don't want her in a cage for her last days. For now, this is her story. Dixie had been abandoned at 5 months old at a very rural gas station. I rescued her then, and she turned 10 months old on February 6, 2025. Her veternarian identified her as an American Black Lab/Border Collie, a Borador! She is a sweet and affectionate, high energy dog, in her adolescent stage. She needs an experienced handler. She loves to be trained and learn new skills. She is exceptionally intelligent, with an excellent memory and willingness to learn new things. She has working dog blood. She would be an outstanding agility dog, sport dog, maybe frisbee catcher! or possible herding dog. I am unable to keep her because I have a chronic illness, and I’m moving in just a few months. I will be living with my grandchildren who are all afraid of dogs. At my current home, Dixie has the benefit of a fenced 20x40 play area with a small roofed porch and a fenced 1.6 acre yard. She is outdoors whenever the weather is good. I exercise her while driving my golf cart from 30 to 60 minutes a day . She can run to her heart's delight during this time. She is fast! She runs 30mph at top speed. She has that little black Grehound confirmation, unique to American Black Labs. But she has likely reached her mature size at about 40 lbs. But in a few months, I won't have a fenced-in yard or my golf cart when I move. She knows numerous commands! All of the interactions I have with her involve verbal and gestural commands: sit, stay, back, leave it , hop up, hop down, drop it, off, shake, kiss, and several more. But she needs additional training from an experienced handler. She is an intelligent, eager girl!! She has a short coat, so I keep her in my attached, heated garage when the weather is very cold or stormy. She can always see us through the glass storm door and I lower the top portion so she can hear us as well. She has to be kept apart from my senior Doberman because the puppy's energy levels are too high for my 13-year-old dog. She has a little horse stall in this garage where she does her business. I have not been able to work on house training her because she can't be in the house when my senior dog is there. But she has ridden in the car with very few accidents. She's going to be a gorgeous and devoted dog when she grows up emotionally!
