Meet Maximus, a German Shepherd mix that is 62 pounds and almost 2 years old. He is a sweet and playful boy who is looking for a patient and loving home to help him continue building his confidence. This handsome pup is house and crate trained and absolutely lives for playtime with other dogs—he bonds with them instantly and would thrive in a home with a canine companion. Maximus can be shy when meeting new people and adjusting to new environments, but once he warms up, he is incredibly affectionate and loyal. Belly rubs are one of his favorite things, and he’s learning to embrace the fun of toys. While he’s still figuring out what kind of treats he likes, he never hesitates to enjoy a good meal! Because of his initial nervousness, Maximus needs a home with a securely fenced yard where he can feel safe and have the space to run off his energy. He would do best in an active household that can provide him with plenty of exercise and encouragement as he continues to gain confidence. While he hasn’t been exposed to children yet, his size and enthusiasm for jumping make him a better fit for families with older kids. Maximus is a truly special dog with a heart full of love to give. With patience, consistency, and a little extra time to adjust, he will become an incredibly devoted companion. Could you be the one to help him blossom into his best self? His minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
