Male Dog, Chihuahua
Chihuahua / Mixed (Short Coat)
Description:
My name is Cocoa and I am a tricolor & brown chihuahua sh/mix. I am a neutered male and I am 1 year and 8 months old. I am here because I was given up by my owner on 03/26/2025 becuase of my behaviors. I am a typical little dog with lots of opinions, and that meant I wasn't a good match for their family. They were my family for 1 year. I am used to staying inside during the day and inside during the night. I am potty trained, but my cues that I have to go are subtle according to my family. I do try to throw a fit about going outside during rain or snow, so you'll need to encourage me a bit more during those times. I am a high energy dog and I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience as long as you are patient with me and understand my `no go` actions. I am used to being crated when my owners are gone, but I panic if I'm in there all day. I am still learning to walk nicely on a leash, and I pull/tug sometimes. I would do well with simple obedience training to help us bond and for us to learn how to communicate with each other. I dash out open doors or gates if given the opportunity. I would like a standard height fence to help keep me inside the yard. I can be good with men, women, and children. I can be good with cats and I can be good with other dogs. I sometimes will growl and at other animals if I think they're going to try to take the toy or treat that I have. I would enjoy meeting other dogs for play dates and walks, but I may do best as the only dog in the home so I don't feel like I have to `compete` for my favorite things. I do not growl or snap at a human when I have my favorite food or toys UNLESS they are trying to actively take it from me (favorite tennis ball, food, a roll of toilet paper I stole, etc.). Then I will growl and throw a big fuss with you about you trying to take it from me.All dogs are tested for heartworms and given flea preventatives. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Dogs are vaccinated against distemper, rabies, and bordetella, spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption.
