Male Dog, Pit Bull Terrier

Pit Bull Terrier (Short Coat)

Description:

Joka A556475Joka is a handsome and petite boy who is active in his kennel and ready for a walk. He has a sign on his kennel that indicates he’s a “playgroup rockstar” and is regularly seen participating in the shelter @dogsplayingforlife playgroups held in the morning prior to the shelter opening. Multiple staff members told me that they were happy that I was taking Joka out for a walk and a pupcake and all said the same two reasons: they really like Joka and also they really want him to get more exercise than he’s currently getting. Living in a small kennel is hard for any pup, especially when you hit that one month at the shelter mark, the stress starts to show.In Joka, his stress shows up as over arousal. A little extra mouthiness when asking for treatos… an attempt to grab things out of my hands before he’s given them. Makes me think that his shelter stay is starting to wear on him. Often it’s the most social dogs have the most challenging time with confinement as its so different than anything they’ve experienced in the past. Joka will do well in an adopted home, that’s for sure, but he needs to find one soon and once there, needs a patient adopter who won’t punish him for mouthiness but instead will give him productive outlets for expressing stress (thinks to lick and chew) and regular walks, access to positive social experiences again.Joka is reserved for adopters residing outside of Prince George's CountyAnimal Services Division3750 Brown Station RDUpper Marlboro, MD301-780-7200
