Female Dog, Hound
Hound / Mixed
Description:
Meet adorable Edna, a delicate beauty at 31 pounds, 1.5 years, and some type of hound mix. Once she knows a person she is an amazing dog - loving, happy, cuddly, and playful. But she needs some time to get to know and trust you. She will need patient people who are willing to put in the time to earn her trust before taking her home. Edna is a bit of an anxious girl and takes daily medication to make the world feel safer to her. Once she knows you she is easy to walk and enjoys a good sniff in the fresh air. When walking she doesn't pay attention to other people as long as you are near her and holding the leash. She will look to you for direction as you walk.Once she is secure in her home, Edna is a great dog. If you are a bit of a homebody who just wants to walk her around the block and throw toys in your fenced backyard, Edna would be perfect for you. She is not a social butterfly with people - not the kind of dog to take out and about. Edna is still learning basic commands but does a mean sit and walks well on leash. She would love a doggie sibling who is calm and could help give her guidance. She has no experience with children or cats so she may be best for a dog-experienced adult only home. She is great with other dogs and loves the doggie daycare where she is currently. She likes to run and bark with the pack but can be easily settled with a variety of chew toys, as she will play quietly by herself for quite a while. Edna will play by herself in the backyard (we recommend a fenced yard for her because she loves to run) and keeps herself entertained when a human or other dog is not available to play. Importantly, she is quite the little lady when it comes to resources and is not possessive when food or treats are being distributed. She is, however, very treat motivated which should help with her training. PAW will support any adopter with training and daycare sessions. If you have a soft spot in your heart for the dogs that need a little bit more - a little more work, a little more patience, a litte more love - you know that those are the dogs that give you the greatest reward. Edna is that kind of dog. She may take a bit more work in the beginning, but she will reward you with a lifetime of love and devotion. You will be her sun, her moon, and her stars. Don't you want to give Edna a chance?PAW places animals in the Washington, DC/Baltimore Metropolitan area only.
