Female Dog, Chihuahua
Chihuahua / Mixed
Description:
Name: Piper Sex: Female Estimated Age: 8 years old Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua Mix Weight: About 13 lbs Lives With: Dogs, cats, and people! Housebroken? Piper is potty trained and crate trained. Story: Piper was rescued from Puerto Rico. We are so happy to have her safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Piper is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with cats and other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Piper is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Piper will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Piper (who I have been calling Rosalita or Rosie, as a nod to her Puerto Rican heritage) is an adorable couch snuggler. She is very well-behaved in the home, and is content to lie on her bed and nap or watch her person when she's not with them on the couch. She is starting to get more confident with other people/dogs on our walks - she is happy to gently greet people and has even started getting a little excited or doing play bows with a few of the dogs we have met. I have been working on crate-training with her, and she is very content to go into her crate and take a nap when need be. Her favorite activities so far are going on walks to check out the smells in the neighborhood, and then getting cozy on the couch to watch some TV! The fee to adopt Piper is $350. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. Piper has been seen by a shelter vet and is being treated for Heartworm. Heartworm is a very treatable illness that is common in many shelter dogs coming from Puerto Rico.
