Male Dog, Pit Bull Terrier
Pit Bull Terrier (Short Coat)
Description:
TY Male, neutered 2 years old Pit bull terrier 60 lbs. Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention Crate trained, leash trained Good with other large dogs, adults and older kids. Untested with cats, small dogs and small children. Follow Ty on Instagram at #lovepaws_ty Ty is a sweet, playful boy who had a difficult start at life. He was deserted by his family and picked up by PG County Shelter. There he quickly contracted kennel cough and was in isolation for weeks until he healed. He DID heal, only to be put on the urgent list at risk for euthanasia within a week. He was rescued and brought home with foster mom a mere 3 hours before his scheduled euthanasia. The first thing his foster noticed is that Ty is very quiet. He rarely barks or growls, and whines softly and briefly when he is protesting something. He LOVES riding in the car, especially with the window down. He is a fantastic co-pilot, very polite and respectful in the car. Ty enjoys a sniffy walk through the woods or a field on a long lead and is super gracious about checking in with his human as he explores. He doesn’t want to get too far away from his person. Ty leads with his nose, like a bloodhound, and would be great with scent work! He knows ‘sit’ and ‘lay’ perfectly, doing them on his own in certain situations. He also knows ‘down’ but picks and chooses when he wants to obey that one. He would benefit from consistent training, as he is very toy and food motivated but sometimes has a mind of his own and shows a bit of resource guarding with his beloved toys and food. Ty is really tolerant of grooming, especially with a PB lick mat in the bathtub! He does have allergies (to what, still unclear) but does well on his salmon and brown rice kibble. Needs a slow feeder because he eats fast. Ty takes medicine really easily; he just eats it like it is a snack. He doesn’t enjoy ear drops (who does?) but doesn’t give much trouble. His typical day is to wake up early, eat breakfast then head out on a walk to sniff around the neighborhood. He spends his day gnawing on a Kong or a very tough rubber ball (ideally with treats, but the gnawing itself is what he loves), and take a nap. After napping, he enjoys more time outside playing fetch or walking, then a car ride to Starbucks for a pup cup! Another snooze before dinner, then a hearty dinner with a side of carrots or apples. After dinner he enjoys more ball gnawing, or a game of tug-o-war, gnawing on the rope, and then wind down with a nice snuggle with his human (he doesn’t really like to be on a couch). Then a final pee break and into his crate for a full night of sleep. Interested in adopting? Of course you are! Submit an application here!
