Female Dog, American Pit Bull Terrier

American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed

Description:

Dogs Name: ZoeyAge: Approximately 8 months Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (38.5%), German Shepherd (30.3%), Catahoula (16.2%), Boxer (15%)Current size: 35lbs Size potential: 45-50lbs Leash trained: yes Crate Trained: yesPotty trained: yesAlso knows basic commands (sit, lay down, stay) Kids: Is very sweet with children and happy to be around them, but can be very hyper. Recommend children aged 3 or older, only because Zoey may knock a smaller child over when she gets her full body wiggles from excitement. But she currently lives with a 2 year old and is getting better each day about containing her joy until she’s away from a small person! Other animals: Extremely friendly with other dogs, she could befriend a coyote honestly. Unsure of her temperament with cats, as there’s none in the home, but I would expect her to be very curious and may overwhelm a cat because she gets so excited about new things, so I would use caution with introductions because she loves to jump around with animals to play. Energy level: High House or apartment: Both would suit her but each ideal life style would look a little different. Story/background: Zoey was found as a stray on the road in September 2024. She was malnourished, covered in fleas and ticks, but was still unbelievably excited to give someone love. The woman who found her took her straight to the vet clinic and started treatment for the fleas and ticks, ear mites, and intestinal parasites. She was boarded at the clinic for two weeks, and was worked with closely by a veterinary technician (current foster) that taught her basic commands, leash training, kennel training, and potty training. She went home with the woman who found her, but unfortunately 3 out of her 4 dogs did not take to Zoey and began attacking her. Luckily she never got hurt, but one of the other dogs hurt the owner while they were trying to get her off Zoey so they decided it wasn’t safe to keep Zoey with them anymore. After trying to find her a place to go, they couldn’t find anyone and made the heartbreaking decision to have her put to sleep. The technician that worked with her couldn’t bear to put her down so decided to take her in as a foster. She has been living with 5 other dogs, 3 females and 2 males ranging from 7 months old to 9 years old. She gets along great with all the dogs but really loves playing with the younger male dogs. Ideal home/family lifestyle: Zoey would do well in either a house or an apartment. In a house she would do best with other dogs, especially dogs that like to play. She would be happy to have children to play with as well, with a yard to run around in (will need to be fenced as she has not been off leash trained.) In an apartment, she would be good as a single pet, but would need a very active owner that would be willing to take her on daily walks and have an area like a dog park to get her zoomies out in. I truly believe she would be a perfect travel buddy, she does well in the car and would love hiking and camping activities. She’s very smart and agile, so someone interested in an active but trainable pet would suit her best. She’s incredibly loving, and very silly, I know she will bring any family or person so much joy.
