Male Dog, American Pit Bull Terrier
American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed
Description:
Guero is a 2 years and 9 months old, 63 lbs. boy in search of his forever home. Guero is friendly with male and female dogs. He loves every new person that he meets and warmly welcomes everyone. He may get a bit too excited with new dogs and may get too close to their private parts so he will need a pawrent that can teach him some boundaries. Because of his excitement, it is better to introduce him to new dogs slowly. Guero is always friendly but some dogs may not enjoy the intense sniffing that comes when meeting Guero. After the first minutes of excitement, Guero will just want to chill and do his own thing. Surely, he loves running with his buddies in the yard and is a fan of chew sticks and squeaky plushy toys. When indoors, he turns into “a lap dog but huge" as his foster mom describes him. He loves to cuddle with people and will spend 80% of his time on the couch. He sleeps in his crate every day and potties outside only. Note: At the end of February 2025, Guero will have surgery to correct his right eyelid (that is growing inward - called "entropion"). We will post new photos of his new "look" soon but there is not doubt that he'll be as handsome as always. The surgery is necessary because, without correction, the eyelashes will damage his right cornea. Things that he needs to work on is humping when excited. His foster mom has made great improvements with this behavior but he still needs redirection here and there. Occasionally, a dog got annoyed at him when he got too close, but Guero’s instinctual response was to move away from the dog (he never growled even when the other dog showed signs of aggression – he is a real pacifist puppy). He would also benefit from some training as he can get a bit jumpy when excited and some more leash-work. He is currently fostered with 6 other large and medium size dogs and gets along with all of them.Best home for Guero: this pup would do well in a home with parents that have had prior experience with big dogs, with children aged 9 and above. Also, he would do great living with other dogs because he doesn’t fight for attention but he can also be the only dog in the house as he's a happy-go-lucky guy.Guero's rescue story: this puppy was living on the streets of Houston for months before a volunteer took him to her house. She became attached to him after seeing how sweet he was with the people living in the volunteer's apartment building. We think that he had an owner at some point and was abandoned after he got "too big" but he wasn't chipped and no one ever looked for him (the volunteer posted him in lost and found dog websites without any luck). This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.)To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: www.sandypawsrescue.com.PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption.
