Description:
Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization. Meet Gucci! He is a lovable one-year-old boy who is looking for his forever home. He was lovingly surrendered when his family found themselves in a position where they were unable to afford his care. His original family told us he is a chug (chihuahua pug mix) but we think, and our vet concurs that he may have some Dachshund or Basset Hound in him more than Chihuahua – he is long and lean with short legs and his front paws turn out to the sides when he sits. You can identify the pug in Gucci by his classic curly tail, but he may have less of the typical breathing issues of the breed with his more extended snout. It should be noted that Gucci has a great smile and a superior grill! Gucci gets along well with the 3 senior pugs in his foster home though his energy can be a bit much for them at times. We think a companion who can match and or tolerate his puppy vibe will be the best fit. He was very nervous when he first arrived and jumped at almost everything; he has settled down after acclimating to his foster home, but sometimes is startled by loud noises or quick movements. We have not tested Gucci with cats or larger dogs. His original family had young children and report he did well with them. This little guy loves toys, both stuffed toys and chew toys. He will need toys for tough chewers as he has torn apart a few stuffed toys and torn the stuffing out of one of his beds. One of his many cute traits, Gucci can be seen carrying his bed around the house to find the perfect napping spot and he even brought it out to the backyard of his foster home one day for a nap outside. Those superior napping habits must be the pug in him! Gucci is very energetic – with lots of puppy energy and loves to run around and jump on furniture. He is fast, so a fenced-in yard is a must, and his original family suggested to never let him off his leash while out because he will just keep running. His foster home is working on his recall, and this will need continued effort in his new home to keep him safe. He walks well on a leash but is very strong for a little dog, so make sure you have a tight grip on the leash at all times, and it would be best that a young child does not walk him without adult assistance. Another strong pug trait, Gucci has a serious commitment to food. His foster family has not found a treat Gucci doesn't like. This will prove helpful when it comes to training. He already knows "come", "sit" and "stay", and is currently working on "drop it". He is a smart boy and eager to please, so we feel he will soon be an expert and ready for additional training and tricks! In his first home Gucci was crated at night and did well. Since being in foster care, Gucci has taken the lead of the house pugs and worked his way into the bed where he demonstrates superior snuggling skills. He should still be amenable to crating in his new home as he has no negative association with the crate. He is also great in the car – he is a most excellent buddy to take along for a ride. Potty training is a work in progress for Gucci. He has had some accidents in the house and had marked a lot, but he has improved greatly while in foster care. We feel this trend will continue now that he has been neutered. His family should make sure he has plenty of opportunities to go outside during the day with lots of those coveted treats and praise for a job well done. Gucci came into rescue with a cherry eye in his left eye. It was removed during his neuter, and he is healing very well. Gucci hopes that you are the family for him! He is a great little boy with so much love to give. If Gucci looks like the dog for you, please complete an application to adopt him!
