Male Dog, Pug

Pug (Medium Coat)

Description:

Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization. Jet is a 2-year-old sweet happy boy who is looking for someone willing to provide a loving environment where he can continue to thrive. Jet arrived in the US in December with his companion Sonamu from Korea where he had been saved from a horrific puppy mill by our friends at Pug Rescue of Korea. They were the first 2 of the 8 saved pugs to arrive in the US. While he was very shy and insecure at first, relying on Sonamu to guide him, he has come out of his shell and shows more and more confidence as the weeks go by. Dogs are so resilient! Jet is easy going boy. Very friendly with all humans and very curious about kids. He has done very well with all children he has met so far. Absolutely no issues with cats and shows no interest in the cat in his foster home. Jet will do well with another dog as he enjoys the companionship, but preferably one that isn't too high energy. He is a quiet boy but on the infrequent occasion that he barks, he lets out the sweetest little squeak! It just brings pure joy. Jet is overall lower energy and would rather just relax in his crate, toy box or on the couch. He does not do stairs so needs to be put up on the couch. His foster home has considered steps, but think he may be fearful. He does jump down from furniture. He has learned about leash walking while in his foster home and enjoys a nice walk. A fenced back yard for him is recommended as he does have some vision impairment and gets nervous. A safe enclosure that allows him to explore is what we would love for Jet. He is not a fan of the rain or snow. We do not believe Jet saw much time outside the filthy building where he was housed with all of the other dogs, so the elements are new to him. Jet has some health issues, but he is stable, and they do not cause him any diminished quality of life. He has pigmenting keratosis that has caused him some significant visual impairment. He gets Tacrolimas eye medication twice daily which will be required for life. The cost of this medication is approximately $65-70 per month. He is very good for receiving the drops. Jet has bilateral (both hind legs) grade 3 luxating patella. He does not require treatment/surgery for them, but we are giving him a joint supplement supportively. His new family may want to pursue alternative treatments other than surgery such as acupuncture and physical therapy which can be helpful in keeping his core muscles and balance strong as he ages. Jet had a respiratory event that required emergency care early this year. He recovered very well. A cardiac ultrasound was recommended, and we were recently able to get that done. It showed mild heart valve leakage. He does not require treatment or medication for this condition, but anesthesia precautions will be needed for any future procedures. He has only mild dental tartar, so no dental is recommended presently. We are brushing Jet's teeth to ensure continued good oral health. Jet is a very sweet gentle boy who just wants to be loved along with a good snuggle and blanket. Learning how to be more of a dog every day. Coming from the conditions he did he is proving to be a great companion for a lowkey lifestyle. He is just as happy hanging out on his own in a comfy spot as he is snuggling up with his humans. He loves food and is easily motivated by it. He has not shown any resource guarding. More often than not, Jet will spend his day snuggling, but he does have a mischievous side. Jet has a fondness for trying to chew on cords, pillows and blankets but he has been finding more and more interest in a good bone or toy with positive reinforcement. For safety's sake, he should be crated when someone is not home and at bedtime (although we believe he would love to sleep in bed with his humans if given the chance) Jet has been wearing a belly band in the house as he has a tendency to want to mark but has made HUGE strides and is currently doing nearly all of his business outside! Following a schedule for him is key but an adjustment period should be expected in a new home. Like his counterpart Sonamu, Jet is not a fan of the cold at all so patience will be important if he does not go potty when he outside on cold days. Jet's Adoption Requirements Docile companion dog preferred. Jet has been among other dogs his whole life and finds comfort in their presence. Good with cats Respectful dog savvy children aged 6 and older Fenced yard preferred, or secured plan Daily walks Single story home or gated staircase to ensure safety related to visual impairment. Commitment to ongoing medical care to include monthly flea, tick and heartworm prevention; cardiology consults as recommended by veterinarian, weight management and daily exercise to maintain joint health and management of luxating patella. Twice daily eye drops cost of $65-70 per month Patience with potty training through transition, plan for potty breaks no more than 4 hours apart. Work from home, staggered schedules, dog walker etc. Jet's Adoption Fee: $750.00 Based on age. Jet's travel stipend of $500 has been generously donated by an amazing benefactor in efforts to remove barriers to finding him a wonderful home and in deference to the financial commitments of his ongoing medical care. If you think you are ready to welcome this magnificent boy into your heart and home, please complete and application. If you have filled out an application in the past 6 months, you can complete the Approved/In process for to alert our team to your interest in being considered for Jet.
