Pug (Medium Coat)

Description:

Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization. MEET CHARLIE AND LINUS! ***AVAILABLE*** The gang’s all here! Charlie and Linus are 5-year-old bonded littermates who were surrendered with love. They are two “Peanuts” in a pod for sure! One may say that they were a bit husky, but the boys have trimmed down to a svelte 26 and 29 pounds respectively with their new diet and exercise routine. Believe us when we tell you, they had no complaints and find their new food (hypoallergenic for Charlie) quite delicious, and they are loving their walks in the neighborhood. The boys are easy going and extremely adaptable. They quickly learned the routine in their foster home by following the house pugs’ leads. They are not only super snuggly with each other, but they are true Velcro pugs to their humans and love to snuggle anytime a lap presents itself. They are friendly and sociable and have been great with everyone, including other dogs and kids. Charlie and Linus formerly lived with a cat and did fine with their feline friend as well. They ride beautifully in the car in a large crate together or buckled into car seats. The boys are crate trained and, strangely enough, litterbox trained. In their previous home, they slept in a large crate or gated area with their litterbox. It’s unique but actually quite convenient, as they are boys and lift their leg to pee. The sides of the litterbox catch this easily on a piddle pad. In their foster home, Charlie and Linus have been sleeping together in a dog room with access to water and their litterbox, but the generally hold it all night. Being the cuddle bugs they are, we do not think they would have any objection to sleeping in bed with their new family! Areas for improvement- good grief! The boys are markers. They are dramatically better than when they arrived in foster care, but belly bands are helpful during transitions and learning a new routine. We feel their marking will resolve completely with consistency, patience, positive reinforcement and routine. Stairs- they are capable but afraid. They now go up and down the stairs to the front door with ease. Charlie has climbed the stairs inside but will not try going down. Linus prefers to be carried. Again, practice and consistency will fix this. The fun stuff- Linus adores being outside and going for walks! He bounds with joy. Both the boys must mark every fire hydrant they see. They both have an affinity for stuffed animals and tug gently on them. They will wrestle each other in play-often on top of foster mom while she is trying to watch Yellowstone. Charlie has discovered his foster sister’s nylabones and frequently steals them from her stash. In true pug fashion, they get bouts of silly, then settle right in for a snuggle session. The health stuff- Charlie came into rescue with severe allergic dermatitis. You can see his fur loss in his photos. His foster mom has been relentless and has made dramatic improvements. Charlie will require prescription dog food and strict adherence to his allergy routine including weekly medicated baths. His adopter may choose to explore alternative holistic approaches to feeding to include allergy testing but must be committed to slow transitions as not to back slide on the progress that has been made thus far. He tolerates grooming and nails like a champ and fits in the kitchen sink, so it is really no big deal. He also has dry eye and hyperpigmentation and will be on lifelong eye medication twice a day (he takes his eye drops equally as easily). Charlie still has vision, but it is likely somewhat diminished especially in the dark. Charlie and Linus are going to steal your heart and give you all the warm fuzzies. This bonded pair deserves the best!
