Female Dog, Pug

Pug (Medium Coat)

Description:

Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization. Meet Rosie Rosie is a sweet 1.5-year-old brindle pug who will melt your heart! She is a playful, lovable girl who is looking for that special someone to call her own. Furever! She is currently residing in a foster home with four other pugs (three resident pugs and one other foster) and is doing great with all of her foster siblings. Rosie and the other foster pug in the home (Gucci, a pug mix) have become very good friends – they are the same age and have the same energy level, and very much enjoy playing together. They both love being outside, running around the yard, and do their fair share of running around the house too! They especially enjoy a good game of tug-o-war. Rosie is house-trained. One of her foster sibling pugs uses pee pads and Rosie will use these on a rare occasion if no humans are home to let her out, but we do not feel these are necessary for her (they are just a convenience for her at this point). She likes to play with toys and prefers chew toys like Benebones as opposed to stuffed toys however, she is perfectly content to just chill and relax next to her foster siblings and humans, without needing to have a toy nearby. Something to note, Rosie likes to steal any socks she hunts down around the house so special care to make sure none are left about will be safest. She's not a chewer; more of a player, but safety first! Rosie is a fabulous eater (like all pugs!); foster family has not found any foods or treats that she doesn’t like. She knows her basic commands (someone definitely spent some time training her in her previous life) – she knows sit, stay, come, drop it. She responds very well to treats. She walks well on a leash but is strong and runs very fast, so a tight grip on the leash at all times is a must. She rides well in the car and seems to enjoy car rides. Rosie has not been tested with a larger dog since being in foster care, but previous records state there was another dog in the home, we just don’t know how big that dog was. She hasn’t been officially tested with cats but did meet one at the vet and seemed to be okay with the cat. Rosie was surrendered by her previous owner for resource guarding and her records indicate that she was adopted by them from a shelter, so not much is known about her very early life. Rosie eats perfectly fine alongside her foster pug siblings – there is no problem during mealtimes, so we do not think her issues were around food, though she doesn't prefer to have her food taken away. (Does anyone?) Foster parents have noted two occasions where Rosie snapped at them: one was when her foster dad tried to take a ball away from her; the other time was when her foster mom was trying to move one of the older pugs away from Rosie, who was barking at the older pug. Rosie's issues with resource guarding appear to revolve around toys and her personal space at times. It was noted in her medical records that she "resents restraint of head". Since she did snap at the foster parents twice, it would be recommended that she not be in a home with young children who may invade her personal space. We feel that ongoing training and being aware and respectful of Rosie's triggers will be helpful and allow her to become the best pug she can be. Another consideration is that now that she is spayed, perhaps her behaviors will diminish with less fluctuations in hormones. Rosie's foster family has not had to use a crate for her, it was noted in her records that she exhibited increased resource guarding while in the crate, so we have not pushed this boundary with Rosie. There has been a crate in her foster home that she has not shown interest in since being there. Otherwise, Rosie is a lovebug, in true pug fashion – she loves to curl up next to her foster humans and snuggle. She also enjoys sleeping next to the other foster pug Gucci – they share many naps together on a comfy dog bed. At night she sleeps with the humans and other pugs in the bed (they have a king-size bed to accommodate all the pugs – lol). ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS FOR ROSIE Children 12 and older only please. Rosie needs her personal space respected by any children she interacts with. Continued positive reinforcement of appropriate behaviors to work with resource guarding. Fenced in yard preferred. Rosie has good re-call but she is fast. She loves her time outdoors running and playing with her friends. Secured plan with leashed walks considered. Rosie would be ok as an only pet, but she would be very happy with a playful companion with similar energy to hers. Commitment to ongoing medical care to include annual well visits and monthly flea, tick and heartworm preventatives. ADOPTION FEE: $900.00 - based on age plus spay fee Age 1.5 -$750.00 + spay fee $150.00 = $900.00 If you believe you would be the best home for Rosie, the one who does not give up on her, please complete an application to adopt! If you are interested in adopting, your home situation MUST meet this criteria: A vet reference check, dog walker check (if applicable), landlord check (if applicable), a phone interview and home visit will be conducted prior to approval. If you think a pug is right for your family and you meet the criteria, please apply to adopt on our website at www.pugrescueofnewengland.org. BE SURE TO REFERENCE THE SPECIFIC PUG! Our mission is simple: we find homes for abandoned and surrendered pugs in New England. Our pugs will be UTD on shots and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. You must be a resident of the New England states. Due to a change in state regulations, we are no longer adopting outside of New England. PRoNE is supported by adoption fees, donations and funds raised through auctions and events. Adoption fees range from $200-$1,000 which is based on age of the dog.
