Female Dog, Pomeranian

Pomeranian / Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (Long Coat)

Description:

Daisy is so full of spunk - you would never know this girl is deaf and mostly blind due to her age. She loves a fenced yard and will play bow to you for a good game of chase. She is always ready to run and enjoys short walks on a leash where she can take a time smelling all the smells - her sense of smell is heightened. She even chased a squirrel up a tree this past week on a leashed walk, much to our surprise. She was delighted at her success! She is a smart girl and has checked that tree every day since to see if her squirrel is still there. She is quick to map out her foster house so she knows how to safely get around despite her vision limitations and uses a ramp to go up and down the two stairs in the home. She will need an adoptive home that has limited to no stairs or stairs that are safely blocked off so she cannot access them. Because she cannot see well, she doesn't get on the furniture and is nervous when picked up. She has a variety of beds on the floor to choose from for snuggling. Daisy is a Christmas baby. She was born on Christmas day and will be 16 years old this December. She is fixed, current on vaccinations, and had full bloodwork. Prior to her adoption, she will have her remaining 3 teeth removed during a dental procedure because they are rotten and infected. She has the very early stages of kidney disease - she shows no symptoms but bloodwork indicated this, so she eats a wet food kidney diet - for the cost of a latte a day ($5), you can feed this sweet girl! An adopter will be sent home with 6 months of food for her. Like any dog her age, she takes a daily pain medication to manage her arthritis - this prescription can be purchased on Chewy. This tiny, 9-pound girl is housebroken. She prefers to go outside in a yard if possible but will use a pee pad if absolutely needed. We would love to see her have a house with a fenced yard because she enjoys being outdoors and running around a yard, and a fence will keep her safe given her limited vision. She is loyal and will wait at the door for you to return home from work, quick with a tail wag and ready for a pet. She has successfully lived with other dogs and could do so again with dogs that are respectful to her and understand that she can't read dog behavior that she can't see. Daisy came to our rescue after her owner died. Our rescue's mission is to assist terminally ill people with finding new families for their pets. We know there is someone out there that is senior dog savvy or has experience with vision impaired or deaf dogs that wants to show Daisy some love at the end of her life.
