Check out the "before" photo of Pirate to see how neglected he was before being rescued by NorthStar! He has since had a grooming and looks like a whole new dog! He had to have surgery to remove a bulging eye, hence the name "Pirate"! He is 5 years old and weighs in at 18 lbs. Foster mom says that Pirate is such a good boy although he would not be a good fit for a home with a cat. She thinks he wouldn't hurt the cat but is afraid of the cat hurting him (but not going to test that theory!) Pirate and the cat are kept separated. If he does see the cat he cries, extremely high-pitched. Outside of that he’s pretty easy. Pirate loves spending time outdoors and he would probably love a fenced in yard. He is good walking on a leash & good in the car - he really likes car rides. Pirate gets along with the dogs in his foster home. He welcomes visitors but will bark at people & dogs walking by the house when sitting outside. He’s good in the house during the day & has been left alone for hours with no problem. He usually lays in the dog bed during the day if we are busy. He also sits & snuggles with me on the couch at night. Pirate is not quite housebroken so foster mom has been using the belly band. I’ve had a few people over and he’s no problem. The kids haven’t been over so I’m not sure how he would react with them. I’m taking him to the park today to see how he reacts. As you can see, he enjoys sunning himself outside if given the chance! Pirate has arrived in NJ to find a loving & safe retirement home.
