Female Dog, American Pit Bull Terrier

American Pit Bull Terrier (Medium Coat)

Description:

Acoma is a sweet, loving (petite, 45 lbs!) pit bull mix who came into the shelter in July with her 7 puppies! She was a great mom, and has been waiting patiently for her turn to be adopted. Could it be with you? Read below to learn all about this almost 3 year old momma! (She’s been on two slumber parties, so us volunteers know a bit about her!)Dogs: Acoma gets along well with dogs. She was a part of a play pair here at the shelter! She absolutely adored her temporary 10-week-old foster puppy sister and has no issues playing gently with little ones. Acoma did great with a female dog (who likes to think she’s a pack leader) that was her size. And has done amazing with a large male foster dog who is go with the flow and loves every dog. Acoma is pretty adaptable and would be fine to be fostered/adopted with dogs (or not!) she has experience living with other dogs in her previous home and enjoys canine company. At the shelter, she’s a proud participant in our doggy playgroups, where she shows off her playful and friendly personality.Cats: Acoma has had a brief interaction with a cat and was easily redirected, so a home with cats *could* be possible. However, slow introductions are key, and some dogs do better with no cats at all. She showed some signs of maybe wanting to chase, but she definitely could adjust with the right guidance. Although, no cats is easiest.House Manners: Acoma is wonderful, and we MEAN WONDERFUL, in her crate and settles down easily. She did jump a 4 foot wall on her first slumber party, but did not jumped the 6ft wall, 4ft gate, or indoor 3-4ft baby gates at her second slumber party. Acoma has greeted dogs and cats behind said baby gates and hasn’t shown the drive to want to jump them. She did get startled at one point in the backyard and bee-lined for the 4-foot gate but was quickly redirected. Human said “Hey” and she disengaged and wiggled and smiled back. Acoma is potty trained, knows sit, and rides great in the car. Personality: Whether you’re in the mood for a chill dog or one with some energy to spare, Acoma can flex to meet the vibe. She can absolutely play and be energetic, but is also content to relax when needed. She’s been found sometimes throwing a toy in the air by herself, rolling on the floor, or doing other silly things. But it’s clear that she knows how to settle and nap and chill and have good manners. Little Shy, but So Sweet: Acoma has some emotional scars from being abandoned in her home by her previous owner. but it doesn’t define her! She’s a bit more on the shy side than outgoing, especially with sudden movements or loud noises, but she has made great progress with socialization and would do well in a quiet, loving environment that gives her time to feel comfortable. Kids: even though she’s shy, Acoma seems to prefer the small humans. At her first slumber party, there were two kids, Acoma did well. Overall she’s a very gentle soul and hasn’t jumped much and isn’t bouncing off the walls. She hasn’t appeared mouthy and takes treats gentlyWe think Acoma would do fine with no dogs, dogs that want to play, dogs that don’t want to play, etc! As mentioned, she’s down for whatever the vibes are. Acoma deserves to find a loving home where she can get the attention and care she needs to overcome her past. She’s a lovely, adaptable dog who can fit in many different environments, and she’ll make a fantastic companion for the right family. and she’s ready to bring love and fun into your life! If you’re looking for a canine companion who gets along well with others and loves to play, Acoma is your perfect match!Watch her video here: https://youtube.com/shorts/pzrfUHYv3UM?si=qvDRziurLrtcwjPVSounds like a catch, right? We agree- and have no idea why she’s still here! Other than some pulling on the leash, and being a black dog, (look up black dog syndrome) we’re stumped. She’s got the softest fur, too- but unfortunately she’s not getting the attention she deserves. So come on down to Westside to meet her today! Adoption fee waived!!Any questions?
