Description:
***CROSS POST***Daisy~3 years oldMixed breed (pitty? Shep? Akita? Husky?)Fully vetted, spayedDaisy is a young shorthair mixed breed dog. She was at risk at the shelter due to being extremely shut down and extremely stressed out in the shelter environment. PKR posted her in hopes of finding a foster or adopter, and a foster hero stepped up to foster her through the city shelter and thus she was saved! When her foster first got her she was desperate to escape & terrified of everything & everyone. Her foster threw a toy for her to chase and she ‘hit the deck’ thinking it was being thrown AT her. Now her foster has found out she loves to disassemble soft squeaky toys & will often retrieve toys outside (she chases them now) or want to play tug of war with the toy or a rope. She is VERY strong! Her foster reports that she has seen no sign of a mean or aggressive bone in her body.Dogs: Daisy is currently fostered with 2 other large breed female dogs. She also has met several dogs, big or small and has done well during hangouts. Daisy can react poorly if startled or cornered by other animals. Her foster does not know her exact triggers, but she has obviously had trauma in her past. She would do well as an only dog or in a home with dogs that will respect her space and meet her at her level.Cats: Daisy is currently being fostered with 7 cats/kittens and has done well with her interactions with the kitties. She isn’t left unattended with the cats (as most dogs shouldn’t be) so kind cats that will ignore her or respect her space would likely suit her the best! She allows the cats to approach her and mingles well with them.Kids: we haven’t seen Daisy interact with kids and her foster feels like a home with kids isn’t in Daisy’s best interest. If you are interested in Daisy but you have kids… we would encourage a couple meets prior to adoption in order to see how Daisy interacts with your children. 1 reason her foster wouldn’t recommend kiddos is due to how shut down Daisy initially was. And the 2nd reason would be the fact that she is very strong & is a bit of a ‘bull in a China shop’. To note, she would likely be easy to train as she is smart, eager to please & food motivated! She recently met a 3 month old baby & was very curious & seemed distressed when it cried.Crate: Daisy is crate trained, however she isn’t thrilled about the idea of being contained sometimes. It may be due to the fact that her doggy and kitty siblings are allowed to be uncrated while she is crated… but overall unsure! She is currently being crated in a plastic crate that the foster has reinforced. It would be worth exploring how she does in a wire crate or a heavy duty crate (she has done just fine in a wire crate in the past)Potty trained: Daisy is house broken.Overall, her foster home is working on sit & down. From a cowering, terrified animal in mid-August, to a happy, eager, loving, sociable dog, she has come SO FAR! Her foster suspects Daisy was a ‘yard dog’ since house manners & toys seem new to her. She reacts VERY submissively & cowers when ‘NO!’ Is stated or there is ‘that tone of voice’. She is very eager to please and gets very attached to her human. She is very friendly when meeting new people - prepare for kisses!“Daisy is still a ‘diamond in the rough’, but I think the sky is the limit, she has already come so far!”To be completely transparent, her foster family is truly doing everything they can to help Daisy and to continue to house her… but Daisy isn’t a “perfect match” for this foster home… so the sooner Daisy can move into a new foster or forever home… the better! In the meantime, her foster home is providing all they possibly can to prevent Daisy from returning to the shelter, where she will likely be at risk again… so please! Help spread the word about Daisy! If you are interested in Daisy, feel free to submit an application on our website and we will happily point you in the right direction. Daisy is not available through our rescue… so if you’d wish to skip the application process, you are welcome to contact our city shelter DIRECTLY, to inquire about Daisy!
