ADOPT MEPolka16 weeks oldPitbull mixWill be fully vetted upon adoptionHi! I’m Polka. I am one of the three puppies that came from Albuquerque Animal Welfare. They thought all three of us puppies had Cerebellar Hypoplasia, but my brothers stopped having symptoms after a day and it took me about a week! It may have been more related to a toxin or something… but whatever it was… I no longer wobble and act like a normal healthy puppy! I love staying warm, whether that be laying over a my foster humans lap’s, or warm cuddles directly on top of my doggy friends, good thing I’m smallDogs: I am currently being fostered with a whole slew of dogs! 2 large female dogs, a small-ish male, and a large male! Plus the random dogs my foster mom brings home frequently I like being able to run and play with my dog friends and my foster mom would much prefer that I go to a home with other dogs. I like playing tug with my foster brother, me and the smaller one are BEST friends. Mostly because the bigger ones are all older and don’t have a whole lot of interest in playing with me. Cats: i currently live with 2 cats. One is not friendly and I do my very best to stear clear. It usually takes one hiss/swat and I’m reminded to avoid! The other cat is much friendlier and even played with me a lil bit. But he also isn’t afraid to tell me to knock it off, which… I do. I knock it off and go do other puppy things. I would be an excellent addition to a home with cats. Kids: I havent met too many children but I am a confident pup that loves humans. I am a puppy though… and actively teething! So continued guidance on being polite with little ones will be needed.Crate: I am learning crate training and usually only display my discontent if I need to potty… or already pottied Potty training: I am still learning potty training, but with each week that I am with my foster family, I am getting better at going outside. again!! Puppyyyy!! Hullo!I eat like a champion and I am extremely treat motivated. Just know that there is still work to be done! I cannot wait to do a meet-and-greet and hopefully become yours!Medical: while I do not have Cerebellar hypoplasia… my foster humans did discover that I have a condition that is completely different/unrelated. It’s called Tracheal hypoplasia! It basically means that my trachea is under developed/smaller than it should be. My “bark” sounds super funny because of it and my foster human likes to say that I basically cannot bark. A funny muffled noise comes out instead. It’s sort of a perk in its own way there isn’t much needed to be done for this condition and it shouldn’t affect my overall quality of life. I just sorta breathe funky, sort of like a pug/frenchie/etc would! My MOST ideal forever home would be in a state with lower elevation… but the vet said that as I grow, it’s entirely possible that my condition will mostly just improve. Which is why the rescue humans aren’t necessarily pushing for an out of state adoption for me, but it’s totally doable if you’re interested and live in a lower elevation state!Don’t even ask about my ears… they do different things on different days. Each day is a surprise Apply to adopt Polka! See our application links in our pinned posts. (See comments for adoption status)
