Male Dog, Flat-Coated Retriever
Flat-Coated Retriever / Border Collie / Mixed (Long Coat)
Description:
Willard was born around July 1, 2022 and might top out in the 55-60 pound range when done filling out. Willard was found in a nearby town and when no one came looking for him the local dog control officer reached out to us for help. Willard is just stunning with his long, lustrous, fur and soulful eyes. Willard is a bit shy at first but warms up quickly. Willard rides nicely in the car and walks ok on a leash. Willard was introduced to children around 8 years old and was fine with them but we are going to say no tiny, noisy, kids because of his initial shyness. In the short amount of time we have known him he has shown us he is a VERY smart boy! He found the dog door quickly and we feel he is doing well going potty outside. We've also found that he is a water dog true to our guess for breeds and it doesn't matter if it's a pool or a pond - he's all in! The dog control officer said he was nicely clean during his kennel time, but did pee a couple times when he was gone over 10 hours. So there could be just a bit of work at first for this subject. Willard is HAPPY!!! And he's a busy guy that is adoring all the play and running with the other young dogs here. Joyful Rescues is having a bit of financial struggle at this time and we truly don't have the money to send Willard to the vet for xrays. In our humble, uneducated opinion Willard's left rear leg appears, to us, to have an old injury that was not taken care of when it happened. We feel it is an older injury as there is definite muscle loss in that leg and the hip joint(?) can be clearly felt and doesn't feel the way it should. We feel it is likely one of those injuries that is what it is and it's far too late to do any corrective surgery, but we could be wrong.... This imperfection does not slow Willard down at all and when it bothers him he holds it up and goes on three legs. He does use it for balance and often when walking slowly, that is when he is walking slowly! Again, this boy is HAPPY and LOVING LIFE so we haven't told him he's not perfect and we hope to find him a new home that will love him just the way he is OR be willing to get his issue diagnosed and repaired if possible. This is all we know so far and we will be learning as we go and so will you! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_500.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability.
