Male Dog, Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler

Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (Short Coat)

Description:

Location: Pittsfield, MA. ACD lovers, meet Blue! Are you into hiking and being at one with nature? Not so much into people-ing and the hustle bustle? Then Blue may be the guy for you! Blue is a dog who will thrive in a more rural or outdoorsy-suburban lifestyle. He is not a city dog, but could thrive in a neighborhood setting as long as he wasn't expected to be a social butterfly. He is an introvert seeking another introvert, and is pretty low-maintenance for a cattle dog. All he needs to be happy is his person or people. He loves a simple quiet life, but can adapt to visitors or outings well as long as you are patient and give him the time he needs to open up! Blue is a perfect gentleman in the house. He currently does not need to be crated when alone, though he is crate trained and appreciates being able to use the crate as a place of safety. He is extremely affectionate and goofy with his chosen people. He loves to play in the yard, get belly rubs, or just relax at your feet. In his eyes, his people can do no wrong. Like many cattledogs, Blue’s trust does not extend to those outside his circle. This means that he needs to warm up to new people and situations on HIS time and this cannot be rushed. This is not a dog who will accept pets from strangers. It’s important for a potential adopter to understand that he may bite if he is put in a situation where he is being forced into contact with an untrusted human and he feels he cannot escape. This is never something he seeks out and he will try to avoid it at all costs, but if he is cornered or is on a leash and a stranger pushes in, he may act. If strangers are to be introduced, they should expect to ignore Blue and let him warm up on his own time. This also will be true of potential adopters meeting Blue for the first time. He may require a few meet and greets before he is comfortable interacting, but once he does accept you, you will be the light of his life! Blue has been muzzle trained. The muzzle offers additional assurance in public or when veterinary appointments are needed. Blue is also not recommended for a home with small children who may not understand his boundaries. Blue has done well with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and genders. He does have a rougher play style, but is respectful of corrections. He has been introduced to small animals and showed interest, though not aggression. He can easily be called away and doesn’t seem to have a high prey drive. Blue is being fostered in western MA. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives. Questions can be addressed to [email protected]. Complete an Application: https://www.acdra.org/adoption-application
