Description:
Meet Grace AKA Gracie Lou Who. Ms Grace is a 9 year young Blue and Red Heeler mix. She was adopted from ACDRA as a puppy and was recently surrendered by her family at no fault of her own. Grace is up to date on her Vaccines, is spayed and other than her weight seems in good health. Grace has lost some weight and is still working on her waist line but is doing great. She has so much more energy since she has dropped some pounds! Gracie is a lady and loves living out in the wilderness where there is little to no chaos. Grace has a wonderful personality, she loves her alone time but adores her human time as well. She LOVES playing with toys with her people. Ball and tug are her favorites. She also LOVES being outside and going on long hikes and walks. Grace is well mannered and likes being where she can see you but doesn't need to be on top of you 24/7. She does adore her morning snuggles in bed and will come over when she sees (or thinks) you're awake and puts her head on your face for loves. and sometimes sleeps with me and my other dog in our bed and sometimes sleeps by herself in one of the many dog beds around the house. Grace does great alone at home from time to time, she will quietly greet you at the door. Grace is great on leash and we let her play in the yard with us off leash and she does well BUT she does need to be watched as she is reactive to people and animals in the area. Grace does have a few quirks about her that I think with time she can overcome. Anything with a motor noise i.e. vacuum or power tools are her enemy and she thinks they need to be slayed. We just make sure she's out on a walk when the other of us does the vacuuming. We have taken Grace to train for her reactivity. She is leash and door reactive. If she can't get to it and explore it she lets you know she is not happy but we are working on this with lots of training games and exercise. Grace is not a great fan of children. She loves people but kids are scary to her. We live across from a horse farm and down the road from a farm with cows and chickens and she has had exposure to both. She barks at the horse from the couch and is scared of the cows. She seems interested in the chickens but isn't really reactive to them. Grace lives with a very mellow male cattle dog and she loves him (it took a while and he is in charge). She is protective of "her" things, which in her mind is everything. She does share toys ok but treats and other high value items should be given to her in a crate or a separate room. Gracie's ideal home would not have young children (older respectful children would be okay), or small animals. She would thrive as an only dog but could learn to live with a mellow respectful dog. Grace would need to go to a home that is dedicated to her weight loss journey. Grace loves doing things with her people so she would love adventures, car rides, swimming, and equally she would need a space of her own for down times. She seems okay in a crate but we do not crate her when we leave as she does not cause any issues as long as things are picked up. Grace has so much love and life in her. Due to her age and her situation changing so drastically after 9 years with the same family we would like a few meet and greets before adoption.
