Male Dog, Pit Bull Terrier

Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

Hi there! I came into the shelter as a stray so not much is known about me. I would enjoy long walks and tasty treats. I can be mouthy when taking treats so please toss treats to me while I am learning to take treats nicely :) I can be sensitive to touch - especially in new situations - so please go slow when interacting with me and give me time to adjust. Staff recommends slow and monitored introductions to any new people and animals in the home. Like many dogs in NC, I am currently heartworm positive. OCAS will be helping by beginning my treatment but you'll need to follow up with your veterinarian! During treatment I will be on an oral medication and will need to get a topical solution monthly until I have a Negative Heartworm Test. If you have any questions about this please ask to speak with a member of the medical staff.I went into a foster home and I got rave reviews! I'll need someone that's willing to help me with basic training and learning the ropes. And of course I'll need some time to adjust to my new environment. But I am a very good boy and a sweetie pie!INSIGHTS FROM MY FOSTER:`Fig Newton is a massive hunk of love with the biggest head and smile. He wants to be attached to you at all times with a preference for your lap and chest if possible. He does get overstimulated at times...but he knows 'sit' and 'down' amazingly and will calm down with your help. He has an amazing temperament, is not dog reactive, and loves to go on long walks (doesn't pull). He is just as happy on the couch as he is out on a walk. He is moderately food motivated. His attachment lasts 24/7 and will happily be a bed hog who does snore. He did fine on his own for a few hours and did not get into anything.`
