Female Dog, Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler

Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

This little dynamo is at least a year old, and she is whirling dervish in the play yard, running zoomies, leaping in the air to catch a ball or toy, and then running some more. Abigail will do best in a very active home where she can get plenty of activity and exercise to keep her busy. She still has puppy in her and needs to learn that it's not acceptable to jump on people or be mouthy. A little effort and training can correct these puppy behaviors quickly. Abigail wants so much to be part of a loving home where she can learn how to be the 100% best girl ever! She simply needs someone who will give her that chance. Is it YOU??Dog Day Out notes, 7/20/24:Abigail went on a hike at Cane Creek. Abigail is adorable, full of puppy energy. She's still learning to sit patiently in a car, and a car seatbelt was really helpful. Once we got to Cane Creek, she was so excited to meet new people and loves to play. She loves to love on people, so it was difficult to get pictures of her--as soon as you pause with the camera, she wants to join you for cuddles. She pulled a lot on the leash when we were going to the car, but was a great hiking partner and didn't pull much while we were walking. We took a few breaks to roll around in the leaves and practice our commands, `sit,` which she consistently does for treats, and `down,` which she was a little less consistent with. She's a smart and playful companion and learns fast.Dog Day Out notes, 6/21/24:We walked the longest portion of the Cates Farm Trail in Mebane, got a Pup Cup from Starbucks, and hung out in the AC at home. She walks well on leash and is high energy. Abigail did great walking on the trail and loved playing in the stream. She was a little reactive to see another dog on the trail but I just held the leash tight and close to her and she was fine. When playing with toys, she wants to chew/ nibble other things and can be hard to redirect; I had to take her outside to calm her down. She will sit if you say “Down” and do the hand motion for down.Volunteer notes, 5/29/24:Abigail is a nice, friendly, energetic girl who is working on her leash manners. She knows “sit” and understands that it’s required for her to get a treat (which she loves!). She does well with consistent, positive reinforcement—she needs a patient human who will match her puppy stubbornness with equal determination and plenty of rewards! She is an extremely pretty girl with lovely muted spots and arresting eyes. I thought she did really well for a first meeting.
