Female Dog, German Shepherd Dog

German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

My name is Ginger. I am a 5-year-old, 62 pound shepherd with a gentle soul. I am a little shy when first meeting people and other animals but do enjoy human company. A belly rub is the quickest way to my heart. I spend most of my days relaxing on a dog bed and do not require room to run, which makes me perfect for apartment living or someone looking for a lower energy gal. I enjoy playing with toys and will chew on a rawhide bone, but I am not destructive. I will present humans with a gentle “howdy” paw to request attention. I have had no accidents inside the house and am crate trained. It may be best that I am walked on a leash or have a fenced-in yard, though. With some recall training, I may be completely acceptable off-leash. I am great on a leash and don’t pull at all. My cat siblings are not always a fan of me, but I coexist with them very well since I do not have the urge to chase them. My younger brother, an almost 4-year-old shepherd mix, is very good at bringing me out of my shell, and while I do run with him at times, having a fur sibling is not one of my requirements. Sudden or loud noises tend to frighten me and car rides make me nervous. While my background is unclear because I was picked up as a stray, the rescue suspects that my last car ride is what caused me to be lost. I haven’t had many opportunities to be around children but I’m good as long as they give me space to get used to them. With time and patience, I have the potential to become an incredibly loyal and devoted companion. I have shown great progress with the positive reinforcement and love from my foster family and am now ready for my forever home. I have so much love to give and would love a family of my own to share it with. If you are interested in making me a part of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . I am being fostered in Lexington, NC.
