Female Dog, German Shepherd Dog

German Shepherd Dog (Medium Coat)

Description:

Oh you don’t know me? I’m Winnie from the block, a two year old, 68 pound, female German Shepherd. My foster mom calls me all kinds of names. Winnie Pooh when she’s holding my head in her hands and rubbing my ears, a high-pitched WIN-EEE when she comes to get me from my crate in the morning, or the dreaded Winnifred when I’ve maybe snagged a toy that isn’t mine. Call me what you want, just don’t call me late for dinner! Once upon a time I missed a few meals and I really didn’t like that. These kind people in a big white truck found me on the side of the road when I was really hungry and had recently had puppies. The truck smelled like chicken so I got a little closer, and somehow I ended up in this big building with a bunch of other dogs. I really love other dogs, but they didn’t come get me from my kennel often and I started to get scared with all the noise. I sat in the back corner when people would walk by and just wagged my tail, but never made a peep. One day this crazy lady came with a big bag of treats and said something about a freedom ride. Her truck DEFINITELY smelled like chicken. I’m a little scared of the car, so she had to lift me up inside. I wasn’t quite sure where to sit, so I decided to hop in the front seat with her and laid my head on the dashboard. Turns out, that crazy lady had this really big backyard that I was allowed to run in as much as I wanted. She’s got the best deck where I can lay and watch the birds, and when I’m ready to come inside I lay on her mat and wait patiently. No scratching, whining, or barking from me. It also came with these two little kids about my size that love to rub my ears and read me stories. I don’t think they really know how to read, but I thank them with the softest kisses anyways. I don’t have any furry friends in my home, but my foster mommy lets me ride in the truck and we go on these things she calls playdates. I really love those things. She tells me I’m like Winnie the Pooh because I’m a friend to everybody- big and small. I think I’d like to have one of those furry friends in my forever home to play with. Whenever I come inside I like to lay on rugs or my bed. I don’t mind snagging a nap in my kennel if you leave the door open! You see, I probably spent too long in my kennel in my previous life, so now when my foster mommy says it’s time for bed she has to give me extra lovin’ and treats to convince me to go in there. I like to put my ears out sideways like Eeyore and guilt her into these super yummy things she calls bones. If I go night-night with my bone I will scratch at the door just for a minute and let out a big yawn or a whine before I settle down - but still, no barks. You know how mama always says it's not what you say but how you say it? I’m still learning those fancy words like ‘ride’ or ‘outside’, but you can get a reaction out of me just on how you say my name. I don’t poop or potty in the house, but I have been known to lick my feet a bunch when locked in my kennel, so when you let me out my paws might be wet. My foster mom said it might be a while before I’m allowed to have anything soft in there because I kinda turned a few of her towels into a wad of strings. I don’t mean to be a bad girl in there, but I have to chew on something when I get scared and I can't see anybody from my crate. I’m a really smart girl, so I’m learning how to spend more time there and lots of other cool new tricks like sit, paw, lay down, come, and wait. I’ll try anything if you offer me some cheese. I can even stay in the house without being in my crate! I will lay quietly by the door until you come home. I would love a family that has one of those doggy doors where I can let myself outside while they’re at work, or maybe even one of those fancy sunroom things where I can watch people. I don’t need a really tall fence, I don’t plan on leaving – what if I miss dinner? I’m a really good girl while my foster mommy works, and I lay down behind her desk and don’t get into any mischief. A few times I’ve grabbed a shoe that one of the little people left out on the floor (mom did tell them to clean up), but all I’ve done is carry it around in my mouth. Well, with the exception of a few squeaky toys that looked at me sideways in my crate.. Those had to go. I hate to talk too much about myself, so why don’t you just tell me what kind of home you’ve got over there? I’d love to come see it for myself! If you'd like to make me a part of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . I am being fostered outside of Raleigh, NC.
