Foster Home Feedback ** Maren needs a home with No other pets ** Older, considerate children only 12/9/24 Building Volunteer Feedback: Miss Maren is a reserved and quiet soul. She loves fetch...with all her heart. She is smart and quick, toss a ball and she drops the previous one right by you so you can continue the game nonstop. Maren is perfectly content just hanging out with a human while you clean, but loves attention if you will give it to her. Searching through the toy box was endless fun as she squished each toy to find the good ones. She loves scratches and pats on her little bum. Maren is a high energy dog but is great indoors and oh so dainty 12/1/24 Temporary Care Feedback: Miss Maren had a little kennel break sleepover at our home after Thanksgiving and we so enjoyed so enjoyed having her! She was absolutely perfect, and it took her only minutes to become comfortable with my husband. You would never guess Maren is 9 years old, as she will play fetch as long as your arm can throw! Inside she is content to carry a squeaky stuffy around and amuse herself squeaking it until she relaxes in a dog bed. She ate well and potties quickly when let out. She was content on the floor all night long. It breaks my heart this lovely little dog has been living at the shelter for almost 6 months, patiently waiting for a foster home without other pets. Maren initially is a bit shy meeting new people but it doesn’t take long for them to become friends. Although she does not want to live with other dogs, she is fine with seeing them from even a short distance. We have even been to an adoption event and regularly get exposure to other dogs at a socialization class. She has been a star pupil there and does very well being non-reactive! Maren would be a great dog for a family with older children or an active retired person who enjoys walks (like me). This fall we took long walks in area parks and residential areas daily to get away from the industrial park where the shelter is located. We will continue to do this and have play sessions in my backyard as the wintry weather so far has not bothered her at all! This happy, healthy, and young-at-heart grandma dog is so deserving of and will thrive in a home. Six months of living in a shelter environment is an exceptionally long time and incredibly stressful despite the love and care they receive from volunteers. Can you be Maren’s forever home? It would be my Thanksgiving and Christmas wish come true! 11/04/2024 Temporary Care Feedback: Maren went on a shelter break with me last weekend, so we know much more about this sweet little grandma dog. She did so well in an apartment and settled in quickly. Maren had no accidents, did not bark and was quiet when kenneled for short periods of time. She loved to play gently with her toys, doesn’t get into things and loves affection…absolutely adores tummy rubs, ear massages and back scratches. Although we think she doesn’t want to live with another animal, she didn’t become reactive to other dogs she could see in the apartment complex or on walks. Maren would be such a good companion for a retiree (like me)! As a senior she can be adopted for our Senior for Senior rate of only $65. She is a favorite of so many shelter volunteers and we all would be so happy if she would find a foster or adoptive home. Maren rode nicely in the car on residential streets, but was a little nervous driving fast in heavy traffic on the interstate, so that is something we will be working on. I am so hopeful someone will sign up soon to foster or adopt this sweet abandoned grandma dog. I can pretty much guarantee you will love her! 9/24/24 Building Volunteer Feedback: Maren is a dog that has previously been in rescue and found her way back into our care due to no fault of her own. Maren is currently staying at our shelter and she would really love to get out, either into a foster home or an adoptive home. Maren was originally adopted out as a dog that needed to be an only pet, as she has had issues with living with other dogs in rescue during her previous stay. This time around, Maren l "tolerates" being around other dogs at the shelter and even tried to get another elderly female dog to play. While we will keep her as needing to be an only pet (as of now at least) she doesn't lose her cool in the presence of other dogs. Maren is a very well-mannered dog. By this I mean no jumping up when excited, she stays very calm while the younger dogs get wild and bark in the hectic kennel environment. She is very much potty trained, she walks well and is soft treat motivated. She will of course spit out some hard treats proving that beggars can in fact be choosers. Although Maren is happy when she is with her volunteers for the brief time she gets to spend with them, this poor sweet old soul does not deserve to be staying in the shelter environment. Hopefully you will open your home to her, she will be forever grateful. 6/11/18: Maren is a shy/timid, but very loving dog. She will be very nervous when first meeting you but with time, she will warm up to you. When Maren trusts you, she doesn’t leave your side. She loves attention and loves being right beside you everywhere you go. When she feels comfortable with you, her personality will shine through. She is very playful and energetic. Maren loves squeaky toys, especially when she can get the squeaker out of the toy to bite on. She also loves playing fetch and going for walks or runs. When you meet Maren, you will instantly fall in love with her! She is a great dog and has a lot of love to give!To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org
