Wes Lobby *LOCAL* MEET ME!
Status: Last posted as 'available' on 10/28/24

Male Dog, Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retriever / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

If not adopted beforehand, this dog will attend the Super Dog Adoption Event on Saturday, November 2nd at Clark Farms in Matunuck, RI. Learn more about this event and sign up for 10am Early Entry HERE Age: 7 months (as of 10/10/24) Weight: 49 pounds (as of 10/4/24) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Wes, and his brother Hobbie Lobby, were spotted abandoned in a bayou by some children who called their father and a family friend, who came and rescued the puppies. They appear to be Labrador Retriever mixes and are currently living in a quiet foster home with two adult women, two other dogs, chickens, and a cat. Family friends sometimes bring children to visit, and Wes and his brother really enjoy playing with them. Wes and Hobbie have spent almost no time around men, but they have been friendly and playful with everyone they have met so far. They tend to be hyper and intensely focused on the family cat, so they may not be the best fit for a home with cats or small animals. Their foster family's pets have some health issues, so the puppies spend most of their time in kennels, along with outside playtime. Like most young dogs, Wes and Hobbie enjoy rough wrestling, chasing each other, and playing bitey-mouth. They love toys, and they are always happy to learn new things and work for treats. They also adore cuddling! Their housetraining is in progress, and they are calm and quiet in their crates. Wes is very well behaved on his leash, and he is learning how to greet people without jumping enthusiastically on them. He and his brother will bark when they are playing, and also to let you know that there is a stranger at the door, or that it is time for supper. Their inside time has been very limited, so their future owners should be prepared to go slowly, keep their worlds small and predictable for a while, and offer new freedoms gradually to set them up for success. We recommend obedience training for all of our dogs, especially puppies. That way, you can both learn the commands together, and the dog gains confidence. Wes is a friendly and energetic young dog who will be a great fit in a wide variety of living situations. He will be a wonderful hiking companion, and anyone who is lucky enough to adopt him will have a loving companion for life! An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
