Female Dog, Shepherd

Shepherd / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

Forty’s journey to safety is nothing short of heroic. This young shepherd mix was saved by an HPD Tactical Team during a tense robbery standoff. When the suspect, barricaded in his trailer, cruelly used Forty as a hostage—suspending her by a chain leash and choking her repeatedly—officers held back only out of concern for greater risks. Over 30 harrowing minutes, they planned her rescue while enduring the heartbreaking sight of her being choked and thrashed. Finally, when the suspect stepped into view, officers acted swiftly, using a less-lethal round to disarm him and cutting the chain to free Forty. Despite her ordeal, this resilient pup sprang to life and immediately sought comfort from her rescuers. Forty is now safe in our program, thanks to a caring HPD officer who brought her to us, just like they did with another dog in need, Lisbeth. She’s 6-9 months old, likely around 30-40 pounds fully grown, and has the adorable ears and face of a German Shepherd. Despite her tough past, she’s a gentle sweetheart who’s learning to play with other dogs and adjust to a loving life. She’s mostly crate-trained and ready for a foster or forever home where she can truly thrive. Can you be the hero to help Forty’s story end with love? Foster or adopt this special girl today!
