Description:

Meet Elliot! For weeks, this little guy and another stray dog were seen running near a Burger King, crossing a major intersection daily in search of food. A kind BK employee put out a plea on social media, hoping someone could help. We soon discovered that their owners had moved away months ago, leaving the dogs behind to fend for themselves. They had been living in the crawl space of an abandoned house in an impoverished area, with no one stepping in to help. Understandably, the pups had grown skittish around strangers. That’s when one of our incredible foster moms, Dina, who lives nearby, decided to take action. Armed with a humane trap, she set up a feeding station to lure the dogs—and within just an hour, Elliott was safely captured. He was clearly exhausted and ready to be saved, showing a timid yet sweet nature with Dina. We are still trying to trap his buddy. Now, Elliott is settling into his foster home with Renee and her social pup, Ryder. He’s re-learning the comforts of home and gaining confidence each day. We checked in with Renee for a first-week update. ******** “The first night, he slept in his own bed, but ever since, he’s snuggled up in mine—he’s a total love bug! His leash skills are solid. I kept him on leash at first because he was nervous about crossing the threshold and hesitant to come back inside, but after a few days of patience and practice, he worked through it. Now, he confidently goes to the back door and heads outside on his own. He’s a quick learner and is completely housebroken—he’ll even go to the door to let me know when he needs to go potty. Elliott and Ryder are getting along well. They relax together on the couch and bed, though they haven’t started full-on play yet. However, they enjoy romping in the backyard, and Elliott loves running the fence with my neighbor’s dog. He has plenty of energy outdoors, sniffing and exploring, but inside, he’s very calm. He’s also a little shadow, always by my side. Today, I crated him for the first time, and with the help of a treat, he went right in without hesitation. He settled down quickly, which makes me think he was cared for at some point. It only took him two days to trust me, and he already has great house manners. Elliott just discovered the joy of toys! He got some new ones today and has started playing fetch, happily bringing them back. He seems a little more hesitant around men but adores my grandsons. I plan to introduce him to my son-in-law this weekend to help him build more confidence. He’s come a long way in a short time. He’s a smart boy.” ****** Elliott has been tested with both dogs and kids and has settled in well to home life. He’s proving to be a quick learner, gaining confidence every day, and embracing the comforts of a loving home. ❤️ Apply today!
