Description:

Meet Tommy! This sweet boy was found as a stray and ended up in a rural county shelter in SC. He was there a few months with very little interest from adopters but caught the eye of one of our foster moms, Laine, who volunteers at the shelter. Tommy was shy with new people but was great with other dogs. They used him as a helper dog to welcome a new, unsure dog into the group. His gentle and encouraging play-bows would show the incoming dog that this was a place for fun and to make friends. Laine felt Tommy would do well as part of her pack and wanted to give him the calmer home environment he needed. Tommy has been living with Laine and Gary and their three pups for the past two months and, as expected, has proven to be a great pack member. He’s more of a submissive dog and a follower with a live-and-let-live attitude…except when it comes to small critters. Tommy would be best paired with another social dog in his home to show him the ropes and help build his confidence. He makes a great pup playmate and enjoys a good game of tug or chase around the yard. He’s very respectful in his playstyle and shares toys well. Laine describes Tommy as a sweet, gentle soul with a medium energy level. He is housetrained and crate-trained and never destructive. He gets a little anxious when left alone and will voice his opinion for a few minutes, but he does settle down. Laine has been working with Tommy on basic commands and his leash skills. She has also started taking him on regular outings to stores and parks to get more exposure outside the home. He does great in the car and did well meeting the staff at Tractor Supply and the pet store. His confidence improves with each exposure, and as he settles in, he becomes more loving and seeks attention. Tommy has already earned free-roam privileges from Laine and has charmed everyone in his new pack. He has a cute howl/yodel when he’s excited to see you, and when Laine and Gary come home, he greets them with joy. Tommy has learned that family life is a good thing.
