Male Dog, Spitz

Spitz (Medium Coat)

Description:

Meet Yoshi! The gorgeous boy was surrendered to one of our vet partners by his young owner, who was not in a stable life position or able to afford his medical care. Yoshi was not kept current on his preventatives and came to us heartworm positive and had lingering skin infections from flea allergies and scratching. Otherwise, he was a pretty healthy boy with great social skills and a charming personality. While Yoshi is good with other dogs and cats, he is all about his people. He loves to spend time with you and hang out on the couch and enjoys meeting new people. He’s friendly with everyone and a very live-and-let-live kind of dog. He LOVES to snuggle and get pets but is OK when that time is over. He’s not overly needy. Once the lights are out at night, he parks himself near the foot of the bed and sleeps soundly through the night. Outside the home, Yoshi is a rockstar and the dog you can take anywhere. He’s good in the car and has great leash manners - no barking at people or other dogs, no pulling, and an easy walk, which is so nice! He meets strangers well and has proven to be very gentle with kids. He’s been around multiple grandkids, ages 4 months to 8 years old, and clearly felt a fondness for them. He would choose to lie near them, no licking or bothering, just very comfortable being around the baby and older kids. Yoshi’s energy level is moderate. He plays with toys and enjoys walks but doesn’t need a super-active home. He is housetrained and crate-trained, but his current foster mom has not been using a crate and trusts him to be free to roam with her pack. He does well with her pack and has never been destructive. ****** We checked in with his foster mom, Jamie, for a 2-week update: “Yoshi is going to be a hard one to let go! He’s such an awesome pup! I mean, he’s gorgeous of course, but his personality and temperament can’t be beat. Seriously, I pondered if you’d let me trade in my Chis for him I took him to the pet store yesterday for a nail trim, and he was great (and a big hit!). He walked in confidently, and while he didn’t love being up on the table, he was compliant. He’s such a handsome guy, everyone we passed had to say hi to him. He was gracious through it all. He was also great in the car and always ready to hop in for a new adventure. He ignores my cats and pretty much ignores my dogs unless they are doing something interesting. He will follow the pack but otherwise doesn’t seem very focused on them. He loves people and food. At mealtime, this silly guy will dance on his hind legs while I prep the food. I keep telling him that doesn’t make me work any faster, but he doesn’t listen. He’s so cute. Yoshi is very receptive to verbal commands, including reprimands. A quick ‘No’ will get his attention. He very much wants to please. He enjoys his toys and when I play with him, but doesn’t play with the other dogs. He’s very happy to entertain himself with his plush squeaky toys and loves a game of fetch. He does generally bring the toy back in my vicinity so I can toss it again. I’d say he's on the lower side of moderate energy. He can get zoomies and wants to run after his toys (or squirrels), but generally is content to hang out and chill. When I work from home, he’s generally just sleeping near my desk. He will bark if there’s a squirrel on the patio, so that’s not always fun during meetings. I don’t crate him when I leave the house. He has no issues being left alone, no anxiety or destructiveness. Note: He does bark, so that could be an issue for condo life. He can be a bit barky when he meets new people or sees critters, and will initiate barking when he hears a vehicle go by....usually delivery trucks, mailmen, or trash trucks. I live in a SFh that sits back off the street. As far as working from home, he tends to snooze earlier in the day and is more barky in the afternoons, so I've been doing meetings before lunch. ******* Yoshi is a fabulous pup who will make an excellent companion and family dog. He’s sweet, gorgeous, loving, laidback, and needs a new family to love. He's been treated for heartworm and is ready to go home. Apply today!
