Description:
I need a new home! I don’t want to come to the shelter, so I’m hoping someone will see me and tell my mom that I’m the perfect dog for them! Here’s everything you need to know: “Hi! I’m Hokie. Im a 6yo neutered and microchipped fella with terrier roots. I weigh about 55-60 lbs. So I’m a load if you are trying to get me in the tub for bath time (which I’m not a huge fan of). I had a bad experience at the groomers when I was younger so I have to take a little med to help calm my anxiety. But my groomer says I have come a long way! I like toys with squeakers and chew toys. I do struggle to share my toys and will need supervision if other fur friends are around. And I definitely don’t share my food with others! I am used to eating my meals in my crate. It’s a safe space to eat and sleep for me. I love people of all ages but given my size kids need to be 8 yrs old and over. I tend to think I’m a lap dog. I love sitting on the couch with my people and for them to rub behind my ears or on my back. And if you stop I will paw at you. :). I was adopted with my sister into a family that already had an older fur friend. Sometimes I lose my cool and start a squabble with them. (Not some of my finer moments. ) I was introduced to cats about a year ago! It took me a while but I was able to be friends with one of them. The other still runs and hides from me and I don’t like it when she does that. It triggers my terrier instincts to find wherever she is hiding. My terrier roots have gotten me into a lot of trouble. The smell of rabbits or deer in the yard excites me! And every chance I get, I chase those rabbits around the yard. One time, I ran so fast, I caught momma one as a gift. I was so proud!! Brought it right inside the house and dropped it at her feet. She cried! (Not sure if they were happy or sad tears). But I just can’t ignore my instincts! And my instincts tell me to catch what’s running around my yard. Even, the family ducks. Which brings me to recent troubling events at home….I’m sad to say I was a bit too rough with mommas ducks and momma got real mad and then real sad. I didn’t mean to hurt them or her. Momma says I’m not bad. And she knows I really didn’t mean to hurt our friends. She says my instincts and high prey drive are a part of who I am. And that I need to be in a place where I can thrive and be me. So if you have a heart for a big goofy guy, who needs a fenced in yard and you don’t mind if I chase critters out of the yard (and maybe catch one every now and then) I just might be your new best friend.” If you ou’re interested in meeting Hokie, fill out an application; we will forward it to his mom.
