Female Dog,

Unknown Breed (Short Coat)

Description:

Lucy. 7.5 years old. FOSTER UPDATE! After 2 months of fostering Lucy we wanted to provide a little insight and feedback to hopefully update her post and find her the perfect forever home. Lucy is a very good girl and overall very easy to take care of. She is super dog social and lives with other dogs ranging in size from 13lbs to 70lbs. She gets along with both male and female dogs although she is especially fond of our friend’s 4 year old dog who is athletic enough to run around and play with her. She is 100% house broken and we’ve had no issues. She does NOT resource guard in any manner and in fact eats right next to one of the other dogs and wouldn’t care if they shared a bowl. She takes treats as gentle as possible with no concern about being nipped no matter how small the treat. In our home she sleeps in the bedroom with us in her bed. she gets in her bed at night and doesn’t move or make noise until we get up in the morning. We do not crate or confine her when we leave the home. They mentioned severe separation anxiety and we have seen none of that however if she was confined I think she would potentially try to escape especially if she were left alone without another dog. She always has the company of other dogs in our home and I think she prefers that (ideally a younger/athletic dog that would like to run with her) She is very protective of her home and her people. She doesn’t bark except if there is activity in front of the house. She could not live somewhere if she can sit by the window and observe a lot of passing cars or people. If she can see/hear a lot of traffic of any kind in front of the home, she will sit at the window and bark to alert you (thankfully in Pungo this is limited to our Amazon deliveries). She is very on guard with visitors in the house and needs a formal introduction and takes time to warm up to most strangers. She would not be a candidate for anyone who has a lot of visitors in their home. They warned us not to touch her one ear or pet her from the side of her eye that has poor vision. We have not had any problem touching her face, mouth and ears. She has zero issues being handled. We can rub her ears, feet, belly, pick her up… she has shown zero aggression or anxiety towards us since the moment she arrived home. She walks well on a leash overall but is excited and does pull some. She rides well in the car but again is very excited. Based on prior history, we were initially told that she had aggression in the car. We have not seen any aggression in the car, but she is very excited and prefers to seat in the passenger seat. She has not destroyed/damaged anything but dog toys. She is such a good girl. She would do best in a home with another dog (or two or three) and I’m sure she would love a home with an active owner that takes her hiking or jogging.
