Description:
This beauty is Star! She is around 4 years old, spayed, current on her vaccines, and is being fostered in Junction City, OR. Star found her way to the Yakima Humane Society in mid-June when she was picked up as a stray in a nearby city by someone who attempted to keep her but then suddenly had to move and could no longer keep her. Shelter staff said that she was terrified but very sweet. Star did well with the few dogs that she was able to meet and interact with while in the shelter and when one of them wasn’t interested in her advances to meet, she simply backed away. Shelter staff had to get creative to leash Star for walks to go outside and even though she didn’t appear to want to be near people, she did go along without any issues. By the time Star joined MLBR it was still obvious that she was afraid of the world around her. Since being in foster care though, she has blossomed into a healthy, happy girl. She still takes some time to warm up to new people, but she does get there. Star seems to warm up faster with older children, as well as women in general, and will eventually get comfortable with men, but on her own timeline. Once she gets to know you and is comfortable, she’s pretty laid back and will make a great snuggle buddy to hang out with on the couch. Star loves to play with other dogs, so a canine pal as part of her forever family would make her so happy. She currently lives with two other dogs, a 3-year-old female Boxer and a 7-year-old male Boxer, and was very quick to befriend them. She also loves to run and play outside, so a good-sized yard at her forever home would be ideal. Star is a work in progress when it comes to being on leash, and patience will be a must for her in this area. She is very food motivated though, which will come in handy when working on her leash skills and on other obedience skills. She is also a smart girl and was able to quickly learn how to go in and out of the doggie door in her foster home. A bonus for Star is that she is great when going for car rides, so she could make a nice travel sidekick. Even though Star is crate trained and comfortable in a crate, she behaves well, being left out alone in the house; never destroying anything while her foster family is gone. She’ll even sleep in the crate at night but would much prefer sleeping with her person or people. Star really is a gem of a pup and deserves a wonderful, loving home and family.
